Andrew Posted March 16, 2002 Posted March 16, 2002 I've built up my car, Pinto engined S.E, (live Escort axle) all the time expecting it to be registered on a "Q" plate. I wasn't particularly bothered about this, but on receipt of the reg. forms, the notes (DVLA INF26) states: If a new bodyshell from a specialist kit manufacturer is used and two major components from the donor vehicle, (in my case, engine and gearbox) an age related registration mark will be assigned based on the age of the donor vehicle. I've got the V5 for the donor Sierra, Has anyone else avoided a "Q" plate by going this route? Thanks. Quote
brianm Posted March 16, 2002 Posted March 16, 2002 Take a look at www.ac427.com (and I cant do all that fancy link stuff) follow Q plate - can I change it? Brian. Quote
Andrew Posted March 16, 2002 Author Posted March 16, 2002 The points system they're on about on that Cobra club thread, is for "Radically altered vehicles". dont ask me what they are! My little paragraph was under "Kit conversions", "A kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle or old parts are added to a kit comprising a manufactured body/bodyshell. The general appearance of the vehicle will change and result in a revised description on the registration document." My built up inspection report looks less of a mis-mash than the example on the Cobra thread. He had only a Jag axle and suspension off his donor, and got an age related plate. I'll find out what I'm getting on Wednesday, when the DVLA man comes to call! Quote
Andrew Posted March 20, 2002 Author Posted March 20, 2002 The DVLA man has done his inspection, engine + gearbox + V5 = "G" registration. Just the SVA test now.................... Quote
Andrew Posted March 20, 2002 Author Posted March 20, 2002 Oh yes,......and it needs an M.O.T.!! Quote
