jeff oakley Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 That is incredible! The rider must get good mileage out of the front tyre as it is hardly on the floor, the guy on the Honda must like the thought of gravel patterned skin if he came off at those sort of speeds did I see 276kph on one wheel? Quote
mike m Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 thats insane popping wheelies at 240 kmh thats 150 mph, would need elasticated undies Quote
gee_fin Posted February 4, 2005 Author Posted February 4, 2005 Tops out at 294kph just as it's coming down.... Quote
ROC Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 What a pair of w**kers, no wonder bikers can get a bad name. Quote
Major Stare Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 If any of those cars were to change lane or swerve in an emergency, the bikers would be dead.......and who would be blamed !!! I saw a biker knocked off and nearly killed as he was riding on the outside of 2 rows of crawling traffic. A car was pulling out of a junction and he went over the bonnet (driver didnt see bike as two lanes had let him out and he was looking left to give way). If you ask me its the riders fault !!! Quote

A car was pulling out of a junction and he went over the bonnet (driver didnt see bike as two lanes had let him out and he was looking left to give way). If you ask me its the riders fault !!! Well, you'd be wrong. Unless there is an unbroken white line, the rider is perfectly entitled to overtake. The car driver pulling out had just assumed that becuase the two cars said it was OK to pull out, that it really was. Lets just suppose the biker had been a copper on a bike, going about his normal duties. You think the car driver wouldn't get done for due care? Remember, the onus is on the car pulling out to make sure it's clear, not on the drivers letting him out to say it's clear... Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 the onus is on the car pulling out to make sure it's clear, not on the drivers letting him out to say it's clear... True enough, but "I was in the right" isn't that nice an inscription for your headstone. Bikers need to ride defensively, (at least if they want to live to a ripe old age), sadly that means allowing for the lack of observation/awareness of many car drivers. Sometimes I wonder if spending some time riding a bike should be made part of the car test. It might generate a bit more awareness. Quote
Blatman Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 You're preaching to the quoir here... I agree wholeheartedly about bikers needing to drive defensively, but I'd be willing to bet that the car driver didn't give a second thougth to *anything* else once he'd ben given the nod by the people who let him out. IMHO, you need to be even more careful when doing that sort of manouvre. I don't trust *anyone* letting me out to have checked if anything is coming... Quote
DickieB Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Agreed. And I don't obviously let anyone out either, just in case they then sue me. So I may stop and leave a gap for them to fill, but I won't wave them into it, or flash my lights to let them out. Sad isn't it? Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 So I may stop and leave a gap for them to fill, but I won't wave them into it, or flash my lights My driving instructor saw me do the flashy lights thing once while I was out practicing, gave me a right rollocking next lesson for precisely that reason. Oops, sorry Blatters, wasn't trying to teach you how to suck eggs, honest forgot to turn preach mode off. Quote
hilux Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 And I don't obviously let anyone out either, just in case they then sue me. So I may stop and leave a gap for them to fill, but I won't wave them into it, or flash my lights to let them out. Sad isn't it? I`m afraid.........me too... We live in strange times where the law determines that we do NOT offer common courtesies (spelling?) to our neighbours etc Interestingly I went on a 5 day h&S course last week and the instructor explained how the `ambulance chasers work... here goes.... `Say` a scaffolder fell off a scaffold and broke his leg. The chasers visit him asap while he is still aggrieved etc and he signs on the dotted line knowing that it is no win/no fee. They show him a list of common payouts from the past (companies will mainly make a commercial decision and pay out a known amount rather than pay unknown court costs in defending themselves) `say` the amount was 100,000 The scaffolder signs and recuperates. Later the court awards the scaffolder 100,000 BUT they find him culpable of not wearing a harness etc and only give him 10,000 Now here`s the clever bit....... The contract he`s signed with the parasitic chasers has (in the small print) an agreement that `say` 20% of the award is their fee (and 20% is not a lot compared to some more unscrupulous ones apparently) So, he gets 10,000 but OWES THEM 20,000 This is extreme but imagine when an elderly voluntary dinner lady slips up etc and is told she`ll get a few bob. When she doesnt she then owes these scum bags Apparently its rife and a lot of people are affected The government is only now doing something about it (electioneering probably) Ho hum Quote
