...........of all the cars I've owned in the last 16 years.

A grand total of 33.

16 of these in the last 5 years (when I moved house )

Most reliable..MK2 Cavalier 1.6 L/crap brick red exterior/even worst interior/183000miles when bought/240 odd k when sold/oil /filters/tyres only required/regulary outran XR3's

Most unreliable..1996 E36 M3 Evo 54k/£8000 spent under warranty in 8 months.

Shouldn't of bought...Tuned Metro Turbo 6R4 replica

( loads of debt then rear-ended into driving instructors car-not amused)

Would like another...Rover SD1 3500 manual/2.8 injection Capri

Most enjoyable...Sorted Cavalier GSI/BMW E30 325 sport.

Lots of other memorable moments.

If I get time next week I'm going to try and work out what I've spent (read "wasted" ) on cars and how much the deprieciation has cost me.

Good job my house has gone up in value

Hmmm not got many to choose from at my slender age but:-

Most reliable: MkII Polo Coupe S - My 1st car and it never went wrong despite the constant disdain I used to treat it with.

Most unreliable: Rover 220 GTi - two head gaskets a gearbox and clutch in 8000 miles.  And it wasn't a K-series! :D

Shouldn't have bought: see above

Would like another: Ferrari F40

Most enjoyable: It would probably be the above if i wasn't lying.  Toss up between old Xflow Westy and current VX.  VX probably wins it for not spilling oild everywhere.

Oh and highest depreciator: MKIIII Golf 1.8T - £2500 in a year, and it was already 4 years old!

Yay, more people who like cav's.  Everywhere I say that I get laughed at, despite mine getting thrashed to the limiter pretty much everywhere for the last 4 years and having one oil change in the process.

My list.

1990 - 1999 - T reg Mk1 Golf 1.5 GLS auto (been in the family since almost new, gran died so mum bought it then she gave it to me when she got her audi). Fair few things went wrong but it was 21 years old when I sold it! A lot of history and memories of youth with this car.

1999 - 2001 - G reg Mk2 Golf GTi 16v - Great fun. Only needed a new clutch but was quite cheap to sort.

2001 - 2003 - M reg Corrado VR6 - fantastic car (prob best all round I've had). Had starting prob fixed by new ignition barrel.

2002 - 2004 - Honda S2000 - new clutch, fixed 5th gear s/mesh all under warranty.

2004 - now - Omega V6 - replacement central locking control unit.

2004 - now - Westie. New underwear :D

So no major reliability problems with any of my cars (apart from the 1st). I like to think it's down to my research when I buy the cars or maybe it's just luck. Hardly lost any money on the honda %age wise. The others weren't too expensive in the first place so I've probably only 'lost' about £6/7k, depreciation wise, in my 15 years of motoring. £4k of that was on the corrado but it was a car I had always wanted and probably payed over the odds but I was after a specific colour/spec.

If I was told I could only have one of them and it was to keep for the rest of my life it would have to be the Corrado VR6.

Of course the westie is the most fun ;)

Another vote for the Cavalier,

Had a 2.0 CDX from new. Only problem was when it threw the cambelt and bent all the inlet valves, fixed it meself for about 300 dabs.(out of warrenty)

Month later got a letter from Vauxhall saying there was a problem with the cambelt tensioners fitted to my age of Cavalier which should be changed at the next service. Too late, they wouldnt reimburse me for the costs as it hadnt been repaired at a dealer. After moaning they sent me £50.

Otherwise loved the Cav, went fairly well, managed to get used to the handling, or lack of it! went lots of places in it, did lots of things in it, thrashed its tats off most of the time.

The only car I’d EVER made money on was my 3rd car a 1964 Mk1 Mini, paid £200 for it ran it for 3 years at collage for next to nothing sold it for £600.............

From then on it's all been down hill (financially)

Family (?) cars:

Mk4 Ford Escort - can't beat them for cheap motoring

Suzuki Vitara (3dr) - seemed like a good idea at the time :p:D

VW Passat - just turned 100k, a little long in th e tooth now but comfortable and practical with a bit of go. We'd have another

My toys:

Triumph Spitfire mk4 - I've owned 3 although 1 was only for spares. Great first car and open top at that. If only they were a bit quicker ...

Triumph TR6 - certainly a bit quicker than a Spitfire. I did like this but couldn't afford a rebuild so sold on before it became necessary ...

... replaced with current Westie. 2.0 SEiW - why did I wait so long!

1982 - 1986 Bedford CF250 Van (1978) Loads of work to get it on the road but no issues in running.

1986 - 1987 Chevette 2.3HS (1977) Stupid fast, stupid insurance spent a fortune keeping it going.

1987 - 1987 Cortina Mk4 1.6L (1980) Had it for three months and it cost £300 in repairs, three alternators and 2 water pumps.

1988 - 1991 Peugeot 309 1.6GL (1988) First new car no problems.

1991 -1992 Peugeot 405 1.9GLx4 (1990) It did 2 clutches in 30 k, 4 wheel drive with a clutch used on the 1.6.

1991 Granada 2.9 Ghia x pack (1990) Company car, garaged the 405, reliable apart from the ABS failing on a roundabout on the A1. Seats got messy that day.

1992 -1995 BMW 520SE (1990) Minor service indicator board done under warranty but it drank fuel.

1995 - 1997 Rover 220GSI (1994) Worst car I ever had, apart from the Cortina, would have been OK in the USA cos it couldnt go round corners. Torque steer in 4th gear and steering like you were using the force.

1997 -1999 BMW 525SEI Auto (1996) Last of that shape lovely car no problems but went back to BMW finance on halves and thirds as they lied about the residual value. I owed more than it was worth after two years of a three year finance deal.

1999 -2002 BMW 528SEI Auto (1998) Lovely car but one service cost over £600. Also the aircon failed and they took three days to repair it, in the process they damaged the handbrake lever, wheel and instrument panel, they gave me it back with the radio aerial cable severed and the sheer bolt on the steering column busted. It took over three months to resolve the problems. I wont even go into the problems with the paint courtesy of Victoria Milton Keynes.

2002 - 2005 VW Golf 150 PD TD GTI (2002) The car goes in April. The turbo pipe blew off after 2000 miles and local VW dealer refused to even look at it. Car recovered and it took another dealer 5 days to do up a jubillee clip. Conclusion car good, VW dealers numbnuts.

Next Car new Audi A4 Multitronic due end of April. :D

Oh yeah, nearly forgot

Westfield SEIW 1700 crossflow with a tendancy to resist starting in cold weather. Check out the website for the full history :p  ;)

1979-1985 - The purple peril Mini Clubman - ended up with 1450 lump in it.

1983-1985 - Mk1 Cavalier 1900 - probably the most comfortable driving position ever, it was immaculate and never missed a beat.

1985-1991 - My favourite car, Opel Kadett GSi - owned from 23,000 miles up to 160,000, gleaming white, If I saw one tomorrow I'd buy it.

1991-1995 Mk2 Cavalier SRi - we went everywhere in this car, never a problem, tyres, oil, filters etc (theres a theme developing here I think)

1995-1999 Sierra 4x4 Estate - Brilliant Car, very sad to see this one go.

1999-2000 Vectra 2.0L Turbo Diesel - White standard JCB issue - 600+ miles to the tankful - 60,000 miles / year.

2000-2003 Mondeo Estate - Again - never missed a beat.

2001-now - The Westy

2003-now - Jag X-Type SE with everything - I love this car and would buy another one tomorrow if that Legacy 3.0 version B Estate wasn't talking to me in my sleep.
