steppenwolf Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Does anyone know if this compressor would be suitable for an air gun and air ratchet or is this really only any good for paint spraying? It looks remarkably like the 'Wolf Air' unit for sale by Screwfix for £99.99. Quote
neilb Posted February 3, 2005 Author Posted February 3, 2005 you can just make out the 206l/min of air flow, so it should be good for power tools - spraying usually requires more air than tools. For the money it's a good spec. Quote
Nick A Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 you need to know the c.f.m (cubic feet per minuet) the compressor can run at and the size of the tank and the consumption of the tool I have a 14cfm compressor (i think) with a 100 litre tank and it will undo 4 tight wheel nut before the pressure drops and it starts up again this page may help a little here Quote
PhilH Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Think that Netto compressor will be struggling with an air wrench. The wrench or similar tool is likley to empty the tank faster than the compressor can fill it so the pump will run continuously and the tool will loose power quickly.Ive a 14cfm on a 50 L tank on a belt drive. It handles anything i throw at it. peterg Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 206 litres/min converts to around 7.5 cubic feet a minute so should be enough for a 3/8" (and maybe 1/2") impact wrench Quote
steppenwolf Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Hmmmmm, on the margin perhaps ...... ( thinks ..... will it blow up my Randy Rachael Blow Up Doll? ) .... still tempted .... wait for more feedback Quote
Blatman Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Received wisdom says it'll be noisy, so I'm less tempted than I was... Quote
steppenwolf Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Took the morning off to go to Netto at Havant with Southampton as a 'standby' - both had sold out completely by 9:45 I guess you have to camp on their doorstep to get goodies like that ....... Quote
hilux Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Received wisdom says it'll be noisy Yup, they are. 7.5 cubic feet a minute so should be enough for a 3/8" (and maybe 1/2") impact wrench Yup, true but the bigger the receiver the more air etc etc Ideal world Belt driven 100 litre receiver 14 cfm Minimum 2 - 2.5 hp (3 and you`re probably near to 3 phase) 7.5 ish cfm 50 litre receiver `should` run most things except h/d spray guns. Obviously you`ll struggle if your using d/a`s all day etc but its the mimimum for a domestic garage if you`re gonna use it for more than blowing up tyres. Oil less is cool as you dont need it (obviously) In line water seperator just off the tank is good too if youre gonna be spraying. I bought a new Wolfe one (as above spec) for £89 (£20 p+p) on e-bay Tip no1 If youre gonna pipe it around your garage/workshop then use 1" or even 2" barrel etc etc as this adds to your receiver capacity (ensure its threaded corrctly with rated fittings) Tip no 2 All you got to do is tap a pipe/tee into any pressure rated cylinder and you`ll increase your air receiver capacity accordingly PS: There are some very good deals on air tool packs at the mo on e-bay Quote
