Darrell O'Neill Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 The missus is looking at buying a Peug. 307 HDI XSI the 136bhp 6 speed one with the all the gizmos. (Traction control switch etc. ) Anyone had any experience with one of these? opinions please guys..... At least its got her attention from a 4x4 Toyota Rav... Quote
PhilH Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Dont know about 307 but i did have a 406 exec.Nice enough car and HDI engine was very good.Build quality was fair but it was the most uncomfortable car i ever had.It was company car so i wasnt paying for it but if i had been i would have gone German or Jap.Must say the dealer was helpfull enough though. Glen_I Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Darrell, They are pretty good, the HDI engine is not the same as the older HDI engine that was fitted to 206, 306, 406, so as its a newer design we are having problems with them, i.e. software faults with ECU and its no fault with the Dealer as even the Factory cant fix it...... However having said that the Father in laws just got one from where i work and he loves it bits Glen Quote
Al Yupright Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I've got one. The 307 HDI XSI 136, exactly as you're asking. A 5door in onyx black, with a tow-bar. I've had it for 6months or so, and done 8000miles. Its ok, yeah. Like you say its got all the toys, is pretty quick, and returns about 45mpg normally. Its a little bit laggy, and the visibility for parking is pretty pants. The thing is, I didnt pay anywhere near the 17K+ the list price is, because my father is an ex-peugeot employee. If I'd had to pay the full price, I'd have been looking at the new Golf 140 diesel instead. I'm probably going to chip mine soon, Van Aaken do a 167bhp chip, but I'm hoping more will become available now that the new Focus has been released with the same engine. Cheers, Al. Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 Thanks for the opinions guys The car we're looking at is about 3K less than the retail price 8months old and about 6K on the clock so it looks a reasonable deal. The reported electrical probs is a little worrying tho. Quote
Al Yupright Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Havent had any electrical problems with mine. I think a lot of the dealerships got one as a demo car, and flog them off after 6months and a similar mileage. The demo car at my dealership was certainly for sale for 14K with 4K miles on it. Oh yes, be aware that the very early ones did not have cruise control on them. Cos the demo car at the dealership didnt... Cheers, Al. Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 Havent had any electrical problems with mine. thats what I wanna hear When were the early ones? Quote

Darrell O'Neill Posted January 24, 2005 Author Posted January 24, 2005 opinions please guys Its French. Say no more. Good engine though. real constructive........thanks Quote
Al Yupright Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 When were the early ones? I ordered mine fairly soon after they came out, and when it arrived, it had it. It was on order for about 3months though. But the dealers demo car didnt have it. It might be that all customer cars have it, but the first generation dealer demo cars didnt... Cruise control might be nice when towing the trailer, but normally I find it a good way to promote the chances of crashing. Quote
chrisbin Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 B-in-law has one in his company and its just cost him £1k to repair - apparently "the flywheel blew up"....... don't ask me!!! Other than that its been fine - decent performance/economy and plenty of room........can't say that I like the look of them though..... Quote
Al Yupright Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 How come it wasnt a warranty repair? Quote
chrisbin Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 How come it wasnt a warranty repair? Just out of year's warranty......which was all he had as it was an import...... Quote
Al Yupright Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 The HDI 136 hasnt been out for a year! Quote
chrisbin Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Well that's that then....unless they were available earlier as imports....but probably it was a different 307 Diesel..... I'll get me coat...... actually, quite true.....cos I'm off to the pub!! Quote
