Westfields Rock On Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 so, been looking for quotes for me to drive the Westy. MSM want £1100 on my Dads policy, limited to 3000 miles a year. What a jip! And, FJ wont let me have above 1600cc. Thats nice, i cant drive a 108 bhp Pinto'd SE, but i can drive a 140bhp Megabusa. what the devil?! Its daft, I currently drive a more expensive, bigger engined, more powered RWD swing spring car which will make a huge mess out of any euro box. But i cant drive the ickle Westy! Who thinks this crap up?! Quote

And, FJ wont let me have above 1600cc. Bit of perspective required... at least MSM were willing to quote you on a 2 litre, unlike FJ who wouldn't. I have a sneaking suspicion that because kit cars form a small part of insurance underwriter business that the policies are based solely on engine size, and not actual real world performance. And I'll bet the pink pimpmobil is on a "classic" policy or somesuch which may not be so readily available for a kit car. Quote
scruffythefirst Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 that the policies are based solely on engine size, Thank god, otherwise i'd be screwed Quote
kik1.6se Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Have you tried HIC (Hoddleston insurance consultants or something like that)?. They are cheap as long as you have a few years ncb. Look in any kit, performance, classic car mag an you should find an advert for them. Kirk Quote
darren.cudd Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 its crazy, im about to build a dax rush for a friend, he's only 20 and has a ban for no insurance about 3 years ago.. he couldnt get a quote on a 170bhp rover 3.5 v8 but...... they were more than happy to qoute him on a 2.0ltr 220bhp cosworth turbo. same with me, its cost me the same to insure mine with a bl**** great big turbo bolted on the side as it would have for a 2.0ltr pinto! im not complaining but it does seem a little bit silly! adhawkins Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 When I changed my car with MSM, I'm fairly sure they also wanted to know the engine BHP... Andy Quote
MartT Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 A few years ago I had a quote from a company which advertises in the usual kit mags. I think their name is Backford Bloor, or something similar. From what I remember they were fairly reasonable. Might be worth a call. BTW what's your other motor? Cheers Martin Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 1973 GT6. (2ltr Straight 6 jobby, which i could stick a 4.55 diff on, some 32s and would go like our westy) Had a call from FJ. Theyre willing to insure me until June for £400 on top of my Dads policy limited to 5k miles. thats like £3.O8 a day. Its all stupid. hmmhmmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm he thinks. speedo, cable, unattached, insure for less miles Quote
Blatman Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 2ltr Straight 6 jobby, which i could stick a 4.55 diff on, some 32s and would go like our westy Yeah, until you hit 58mph, at which point the Westfield (which was probably still ahead anyway) would keep accelerating up to over 100mph. You'd be lucky if Pinky got to 90... Quote
smithydar Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 hmmhmmhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm he thinks. speedo, cable, unattached, insure for less miles unless something goes tits up.then you will both wish you hadnt .thats for sure. darren Quote

JonnyBoy Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 95 was the most i had out of my mildly tuned 1275 midget.. and that was f'in scary!! wouldnt dare do any more in a car reputed for a chassis that rusts to bits (well.. thats a herald, not spitfire....but its all the same) My insurance is 350ish fully comp on daddys policy.. 3kmiles a year. try and get insurance on a tin top of my own and its all up the sh*t. I cant believe they dont take into consideration what i've driven before, own or how nice a bloke i could be remember.. insurance is a mystery. I find it best just not to bother (joke) Quote
scooby Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 they were more than happy to qoute him on a 2.0ltr 220bhp cosworth turbo. Do you have to quote that you have a turbo on an insurance policy Darren Quote
S8ight Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 cant you add it to the GT6 policy as an extra vehicle ?? Quote
