Top Gear and that Welsh Road ....

My son is planning an 8 day driving trip around the country and wants to visit Wales and, in particular, the area where Top Gear film their road sessions. Does anyone know which stretch of road in Wales they use?

Steps

Some of what they use is on Llangynidr mountain in South Wales. From Ebbw Vale heading towards Crickhowell. Drove it many a time as an 18 year old in my dad's Cortina! :D

It's the B4560 and the surrounding roads North and East of it,

Chris,

Thanks, that is great! Adam says 'Good Man'!

My pleasure. Just watch out for the sheep! There are some fantastic roads around that area. If you need any more info let me know, I haven't lived there for about 18 years but dad's still there, even if the Cortina isn't!

Chris,

Oh yes please! My son is doing this trip purely for fast motoring pleasure so any suggestions in South wales ( and up towards Harlech which is his next stop ) would be appreciated. In particular he is heading for Fishguard via Brecon to meet up with Steppenwolfess and me one evening to give you an idea of his route from Sussex.

Off the top of my head....Brecon to Camarthen, A40, has to be one of the best roads ever      Last time I did it was in my Volvo  :0 , pi$$ing down with rain, and still loved it!!

I'm sure Pembrokeshire Pat will be along with some suggested routes from Camarthen onwards.....

A "shorter" and more local (to me) bit of fun is to be had on the B4235 between Chepstow and Usk. This really is "awesome" in a "7"...and if possible should be incorporated.

From what you've said it would seem Brecon will be a stopover (?). Well I reckon that just about any of the roads out of Brecon will get the juices going.....

I'll have to give it some more thought... ;)

I felt my ears burning......

now then....

I agree about the A40 and it goes all the way to Haverfordwest.

from Llandeilo to Carmarthen ( lower road ).  There is a straight about 1 mile long and normally empty.  Fantastic to play on for speed after going on the rolling road at Llandeilo but don't go there at the weekend as the police headquarters are at the Carmarthen end ( weekend = over time for coppers)

North of Carmarthen towards Beulah.  Mountain driving and brilliant fun.... curvy enough that you can easily embarrass motor bikes!! :D

Beulah to Llanrwtd Wells...A scary bit of road which is like a rollercoaster.

Over the Presellis in the middle of Pembrokeshire..not fast driving but fab views! (p.s. from haverfordwest to Fishguard on the Cardigan road ( the place not the article of clothing)

If your son wants some real fast motoring with no risk to license send 'im to the lovely IOM and i'll take care of him :)

No national speed limits and some fantastic roads - bonus. Only downside is the Steam (cost you a) Packet

Just be careful around Pembrokeshire, narrow roads with very high hedges, which will look even higher in a Westie!

Oh yes..but it is so much more exciting when you fly around a corner only to find a petrol tanker hogging the road and coming the other way!
