firecracker
After spending a ridiculous amount of money at westfield yesterday to replace my snapped drive shaft and knackared upright I thought I had better change the UJ's on the other side (good job as they were ready to self destruct! ) Also a good job as the wheel bearings were on the way out too. Anyone know what car the bearings are off so I can order some from our local supplier? The westie is a 1990ish narrow body. Any advice appreciated Cheers Phil
S8ight
dont know if its the same on the earlier cars but the later is QWB 422 £18.75 (SKF-633295B) if you can get me a number off the bearing i can give you a QH part number. MY GOD !!!! just checked QH catalogue and they list Westfield !!!!!
firecracker
Thanks for that. Have no idea if it is the same type as they use now. Its two bearings side by side pushed into the ally upright - is that the same? Anybody else know?
SteveRST
Phil - Sorry, I don't know about the bearings but just interested to know what Westfield were able to do for you re: driveshaft. Where they able to sell you new shaft, or just the stub axle bit that goes into the hub? How expensive are we talking here? Reason I ask is that I have same driveshafts with UJ's as you and when I broke one 6 months ago Westfield could not help me at all and I spent ages finding a replacement shaft. Wonder if they now have a stock of these older shafts. Cheers, steve
Arm
Steve Are you sure you have the same ? Do you have the Tripode joints and the Sierra diff where Firecracker has the UJ's and Escort diff ?
SteveRST
Hi Ash / Arm, I have oldskool UJ's and escort diff arrangement too. You did offer me lots of help and advice at the time. Needed the stub axle bit that goes into diff if you remember. Thanks. I think SteppenWolf's son had a broke drive shaft too and he has the Tripode joints and the Sierra diff if IRC. steve

firecracker
Steve Westfield suppled the actual drive shaft as in the long piece in the middle and the rear upright. The shaft was £46 and the upright £160 plus the VAT. I asked the bloke there about the splined end that fits into the hub but aparently they are now discontinued by westfield. they were machined down Mk 3 escort drive shafts he said. Luckily mine was OK so I managed to reuse it. I bought the UJ's from our local car parts place for £10 each. So it soon adds up really. Is this info useful? Neil Purdie
Can you please get a number from the old bearings - That would be really usefull. As yet the only definate number that I know of is for later cars. Are your new uprights and U/J's the same spec as original, or did you end up with the uprated ( larger diameter ) U/J. Cheers. Neil. firecracker
OK I'll get the bearings out tommorrow and see if the number is stil in tact - meant to do it today but work is takin up tooo much time!! The drive shaft is a lot beefier but the UJ's aren't that much different, only a little bit stronger lookin. The upright is also a different casting. It looks a lot more up to the job than the other one structurally.
Mat Jackson
If you take the old bearings to a bearing supplier (SKF, WYKO etc) there should be able to supply you with replacements. If you look in yellow pages you should be able to find one quite close to you (usually a few on local industrial estates). If you are not "into" bearings it is probably easier to take the actual units to themrather than the numbers to ensure you get an exact replacement.
