I`ll have to say that I am overwhelmed with all the good wishes not only on this forum but from friends and colleagues.

You dont know how many friends you have until something like this happens.

Once again, thanks to one and all.

BTT

Insurers have offered £9500 (500 above the value for insurance purposes) so I suppose I shouldnt grumble but I cant get another for the same money. Theres loads of ordinary spec zetec engined ones etc and a really old series one v8 thats 1982 vintage (mine was 1997)

I`ve spoken to Ginettas MD and if I want a G27 V8 the only way is for him to supply a kit and me build it or he`ll build me one but its gonna be 17,000 inclusive etc etc

Isnt insurance `like for like` unless you`ve agreed a value. What experiences have you all had when claiming for kit cars.

All advice greatfully received.

Thanks in advance

Did you give the value of the car to the insurance company or did they estimate its worth?

If it was you the insurance company offering an extra £500 seems quite generous (and unusual) but I would be inclined not to accept their first offer. Get a quote from Ginetta to replace it but you'll have to expect to add a certain amount of your own money to take into account the age and condition of your car. Unfortunately car insurance isn't 'new for old'.

Personally i would not accept the first offer even though it sounds good you should be able to replace your vehicle with one of simular condition, age and spec (taking all the work you did to your old one into account) if you can't do this for the money refuse the offer if you can it's a good offer,

thats how to look at it  :D
