chrisbin Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Just catching up with stuff.......instead of working..... really sorry to hear of this but as many have already said, at least you are OK. Quote
Nick M Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Holy cr*p !!! Glad you're (relatively) OK though Quote
PaulP Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Hi Glad you are ok(ish) I was in the vectra that turned right, I was watching you in my rear view mirror and saw the accident I was the guy that disconnected your battery but wasn't wearing glasses (unless I had my sunglasses on, can't remember) I think the road was dry but very slippery due to salt and how cold it was that day. I'll send you a PM now Paul Quote
hilux Posted January 4, 2005 Author Posted January 4, 2005 How about Fiber form [David used to make all the Geinetta chassies before they shipped them out to China] making you a new chassie up with all the mods you have done with a full cage built in and swoping most of the running gear over and a new body Hi Paul I know Fiberform from your last recommendation. (Thanks) They were the ones who made the roll hoops/struts (to my spec) Top people. I immediately thought of them and will offer them my business as and when. I feel that it is salvageable (but labour costs may not allow it) I wont have the chassis jigged and repaired as its been severly tested IMHO so for me a new body/paint, chassis and swap over is possible either by me or recommended experts in Ginettas. It owes me circa £9K and top G27`s/G33`s are going for £11-15K so we`ll see if the insurers can find me another tuned V8 engined one built to my high (my opinion) fastidious spec as most are TB`d 1800 Zetec engined. Hmmmmmmmmm VX/duratec/V6 power now thats interesting............ Quote
james grayley Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 hi hilux, Really sorry to hear of this, I cant imagine what it feels like. The car does like to have stood up to it well though , especially being the older ginetta chassis. The new one is even beefier..! Dave Sewell at fibre now makes all the 'factory' built ginettas so as paul pointed out he would be your man..... the new G27 chassis is the smae chassis as the g20 so maybe theres some way you can get your insurance company to pay for you a new g20? The rover V8 has been shoehorned into one already but the 3.0 V6 Jag duratec fits too..... I'm (hopefuly) about to build a g20 coupe (the GT car) with the V6 engine in... mmmmm... Quote
perksy Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Just Glad your Ok. Followed all your progress with this car and you put so much effort into it Hope you feel better soon Quote
Gromit Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Is this a bad year for accidents or what. Just read on the darkside the tragic news of a fatal accident involving a Se7en. Lets just hope that this is the last one we hear about. Be careful out there guys. Quote
hilux Posted January 5, 2005 Author Posted January 5, 2005 I'm (hopefuly) about to build a g20 coupe (the GT car) with the V6 engine in Whats `the GT car` then I heard that the G20 chassis is smaller than the G27 (internal space etc? is this true? Quote
james grayley Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 They both run the same chassis hilux, its just that the bodywork on the g20 is moulded to run down inside the chassis to form an arm rest so it feels a bit tighter in there but still more room than a westy..... I will post some pics of the gt prototype later this evening, it will be autosport next week. Its been enetered into the British GT (lower class cant remeber what its called) and also has it's own race series for 2005... Quote

MartT Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Glad you're ok Brings back memories of my off in June. Similar sort of thing but nowhere near as bad. Certainly made me consider the safety aspects of my car. Definitely RAC bar at the top of the list. Take care. Martin Quote
james grayley Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 This is the unfinished prototype which is now finished and at autosport..... right here goes... first attempt at posting pics so bear with me..... Quote
james grayley Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 holy sh!te hang on i'll try and sort the width problem Quote
Monkeylegend Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Sorry to hear your bad news, but glad you are ok. No consolation I know but passed a rather sad looking guy sitting in what was a lovely Chimaera on Monday at the side of the A5 near Stanmore. Looked like he had an off and stuffed the front and the back and ended up on the path at right angles to the road. Looked like every single panel was either in lots of pieces ir cracked. Don't know where the bonnet ended up, but it wern't on the car. Looked like a write off. The poor guy was still sitting in it.I think he needed more than a bit if fibreglass. Makes you realise how easy it is to lose concentration momentarily with disastrous consequences. Quote
