darren.cudd Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 took the car out today and snapped yet another clutch cable this is the 3rd one in 7 months! wanted to know if anyone else gets through them? im running a 4 paddle clutch so it is quite heavy and so probably does put a lot of strain on it but wouldnt expect them to keep snapping like this at the moment part of me is considering converting it to a hydraulic set-up anyone else use these on there cars? btw, the cables always go just below the peddal end nipple! but the angle at which it goes into the box seems fine so cant see why they keep going like this Quote
higgsti Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 `may sound daft but have you got a pedal stop this kept happening with my throttle cable until i fitted a throttle stop and there should be one on clutch as well just a bolt or threaded rod of correct length:0 Quote
darren.cudd Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 hmmmm duno actually will run out and check after top gear i think it just bangs up against the peddal box mount though? but i could be wrong cheers, thats something else to check Quote
pete g Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 had this problem once ,when i changed engine and bellhousing. clutch cable was wrong length causing it to snap ,particulary if you are using cheap cables .shortest journey i did on one was 100 miles ,got through 7 in the end ,then decided to sort out the problem, needed a different throw clutch release arm. 10,000miles on no more problems. regards pete Quote
darren.cudd Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 im getting the cables though westfield so dont know if there good ones or cheap ****e really? cant really adjust the lenth of the clutch arm as any shorter and its in the gearbox and any longer will be hitting the chassis Quote
darren.cudd Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 pete, when you say your cable was the wrong length how do you mean? i have to wind a bit of pretention on mine in order to get it to bite where i need but wouldnt have thought that would make it snap? Quote
pete g Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 darren sorry it was not the length that was the real problem, but running out of adjustment.arm hitting bellhousing opening before clutch pedal reaching floor, hence putting to much strain on cable, you could fit pedal stop,if this is happening. westfields clutch cables are QH are should be fine. Arm Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Sounds like the cable may be rubbing. If they are going in the same position then there should be a common cause. When you fit the new cable look at the action whilst someone operates the clutch. Check it around the pedal box. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 Make sure the nipple can swivel freely as the arm moves. If it can't, the cable gets bent violently and will snap very quickly - been there.... Quote
