kauri Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Hi guys Nearly ready for the SVA test but I need some information regarding the engine number of my Ford Zetec 2 ltr engine. The number has been very lightly stamped with some form of dot matrix style stamping machine. They are very lightly stamped and virtually indistinct despite having cleaned the flat with some emery paper. Any further rubbing might obliterate them completely. I need to know the ford numbering format to try and decipher what I think is already there. It would appear to read: TL291MD? or maybe IL291, the M could be a 4. Any help on this one would be most appreciated. John Quote
peterg Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 My 1800 zetec built in November 1992 has two alpha characters followed by five digits (ie. NS12345) and I believe this is the format for all Zetec engines where NS=month/year of manufacturer and the digits are the unique number for that engine - there should also be something like RQB above it which denotes the type of car it was fitted to (I think) - there's another thread along the same lines hereabouts recently, have a search for it as there is more info in that as well. My number was very feint as well so I filled the area with Tippex and then once dry I slowly sanded it down until just the 'holes' were left white and this made it easier to read - just! Quote
David_East Posted March 8, 2002 Posted March 8, 2002 Kauri, Your format seems to be different from other 2.0 Zetec's, though the method of marking seems the same. 2.0 Zetecs we have encounterd were coded MMM AB 12345. "MMM" is the model of the car , "AB" is the month and year of manufacture of the engine, "12345" matches the VIN. Suggest you check the format again to be sure you have got it correct. Once armed with the information the Ford Technical information Centre should be able to give you written proof of the age of the engine. Quote
