baggins Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Thinking of buying one of the above any thoughts would be appreciated Quote
tonym Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 After getting two tickets in six weeks last year I thought it was time to buy a camera detector and after looking at what was available I bought a Road Angel. Never regretted it. It is an excellent piece of kit and I would recomend it to anyone. Quote
Megablade Paul Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 I bought a snooper S4 a couple of months ago on special offer from Costco £230 inc VAT noramally about £330 and have found it to be very good, easy to set up and use features are very similar to road angel but IMO looks a bit neater (less bulky) it's amazing how you can then concentrate more on what the other road users are doing and hazards generally rather than trying to spot tax cameras Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Origin b2 This is a very clean and tidy piece of kit to fit to a modern dashboard and is does not need to sit on top of the dash or near the winscreen you can also buy second car kits so you can have it in your westie. originb2 Barry Quote
Rob Navin Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 It may be worth having a look on Pistonheads before you buy. There was an article on there last week sugesting the goverment were trying to push a change in the law through to make them illegal again. Not sure on timescales but best to know before you buy. tonym Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 The way I read it only the ones that tell if the camera is live (the ones that detect the radar waves or what ever they use)are to be outlawed. The GPS ones like the Road Angel which only tell you there is a speed trap not wether it is operational or not are to remain legal. Quote
peterg Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Road Angel worth every penny.... contact Julian Thompson on Blatchat as he can get them for a very good price in the trade (especially if you can get 4 others to do a bulk buy) Quote
Rob Navin Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Hey I've just done a search, one more convert Blatters. The PH article is here if you want to have a read of it yourselves. Quote
CateringVan Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 An alternative to consider would be a satnav system with the cameras as points of interest - a bit more money but you get the navigation stuff as well. I dont have anything but a friend has a PDA with TomTom GPS software and reckons its very good Also, Blackspot (the road angel people) also sell a standalone laser detector for £100 if you dont need a full Road Angel system - http://www.blackspot.com/ Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Road Angel or Origin B" all the others are just "others" You pay 4 what you get I've had my 980 Belltronics a few years and its saved my skin a few time especially in Wales.I have have just upgraded to a GPS road angel Mk2. I was gonna go 4 the Origin but finances limited me plus got a deal on the mk2 road angel and the good thing is that the Mk2 is small so it will fit on the westy(not that one in swissland) via a bike kit. Liam Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I have a Snooper S6 + radar which works very well and if they ever outlaw radar detectors I can unplug that part leaving the GPS unit. It has a comprehensive display although it is sometimes difficult to read if the sun is in front of you and you have sunspecs on. However the audible alert is the important thing and that is very good and you can set various parameters. I bought it on ebay (bigmadcol) A colleague has the Road Angel which works equally well and possibly has a more readable if less comprehensive display. Quote
