Passed SVA!!!!!

Two significant things happend this weekend.

Firstly I finally posted my membership form and £25 off, so as soon as it is processed I will finally be a fully paid up member.

Secondly I passed SVA first time on Friday!!!

Test centre in Cardiff were very very helpfull.  Only problem I had was sharp edges on the exhaust.  There is a support welded to the front of the silencer between the pipe and the can, this has a sharp edge on it.  The testers also noted that the pipe clamp type braket at the back also had sharp edges, but unfortunately the heat shield would not cover them both, and rubber edging was out of the question due to temp.  In the end the testers suggested I make a new bracket from flat bar to bring the rear clamp forward by 50mm.  Luckily I had my drill and found a pirece of strip metal in the bottom of my toolbox which did the job!!!

So after 4 hours of testing I passed!!  The testers did point out the irony or not being allowed sharp edgest, but somehow it was perfectly OK to have a red hot exhaust running on the outside of the car!!

2 hours later I`m in the local DVLA to get my number, but didn`t have time to get the plates made up as I had a Christmas do to get to.  Got home later that evening to find SWMBO with a reg plate shaped present to complete my day

So Saturday morning and 50 miles get added to the clock (in the rain!!;).

Just want to say a massive thanks for all the advice I got during the build (maily do a search from blatters  :p  :p ).  If anyone has any build questions on a 1800 ZETEC then hopefully I can now pass on the favours.

Also a big thanks to Speedy Jon for the loan of a trailer for the day including delivery and collection.

Anyone in South Walers keep and eye out, I will be setting up a local meet soon.

just an idea but how about a meet down llandow then at the same time we all can have a blast around the track? just an idea. i know to hire the track 4 a full day costs 125quid and 4 half day it costs 65. im not sure if it will cost more if there are a few cars on the track, but ill find out. but anyway how does that sound?

Congrats on the pass  :xmas:

Any chance you can post pics of the support in question and what you did to cure this?

Thanks muchly!   :)

Don`t have adigi camera I`m afraid, but if I can get one I will see what I can do!!!!

The bracket was simply a piece of flat bar with a hole at each end.  The hole centres were 50mm apart.  Originally the exhaust clamp sat ontop of the rubber bobbin held in place with a nut.  With this mod the flat bar sat one end on the bobbin, held on by said nut, and the other end had the clamp bolted to it.  The flat par sat paralell to the car bringing the clamp 50mm further forward and therefore under the heat shiedl so you couldn`t touch the sharp endges.

Hope this makes more sense, if I can get a camera for a snap I will.

Well done Mat.

Lots of time to work out how it behaves in the wet before the roads dry out and you can really have some fun  :p
