Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Did anyone see Neil Kinnock systematically ridiculed on Have I Got News for You on Friday or the Sunday repeat? The panel did a pretty good job on dear Mr Blunkett, too. Best one for a while, IMHO Quote
Blatman Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Watched it. Thought it was average. Kinnock semed fairly self effacing seeing as he appeared to volunteer to show his most famous gaffes. He was always going to be shouted down by the rest of them. My biggest dissappointment was Wil Self. I normally quite like him as a commentator on things like Grumpy Old Men. Sadly his obvious dislike for Kinnock seemed to overtake him and he appeared self opionated, egotistcal, self righteous and pompous. IE, the very things that he thinks he isn't, if you believe his ramblings on "Grumpies"... I shall be avoiding Mr Self from now on.... Quote
JulianS Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 ... he appeared self opionated, egotistcal, self righteous and pompous. Allways been my opinion of him, never liked him but he managed to sink even lower. However, I did like the rest of the show Quote
Blatman Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Well, at least we agree that he let his obvious dislike for Kinnock over ride everything else he was saying. I think he just showed himself up a bit. I would have preferred to see him argue the merits of his politics with Kinnock rather than resort to petty sniping at every opportunity, which Kinnock for the most part sought to avoid, ie it didn't degenerate into a petty squabble, which it could easily have done. So I think well done Kinnock, bad show Self. On that performance, I'd rather see Kinnock in politics than Self any day... Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 Agreed on Self; I usually read his Saturday article in The Independent and have been coming to the conclusion that he has passed his best, and his HIGNFY performance was grim, certainly. I think Kinnock was self-effacing but that's not in his nature, he was using it, successfully to a degree, as a defence mechanism IMHO. Ian Hislop was up to his usual petulant standard n'est pas? Quote
Blatman Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Yup. Always got time for Hislop. I'd *love* to see him in politics (well, more than he is. You know what I mean...), but I think he has principles... Plus, he does a far better job where he is, on the outside p******** in... Quote
S8ight Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 would like to of seen the full show, looked like they cut a lot of it out Quote
