felters Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 'Er indoors wants a new - and small - digital camera. Canon Ixus 40 type of thing... it's a cute looking item but are there any other recommendations? Thanks all! Quote
Impney Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Can't go wrong with Canon, Nikon, or Olympus. Their optics are the best. A 4 Megapixel camera is great for "everyday" photography and will produce an A4 print without any degredation in quality. A 2 Megpixel camera is OK for 6x4 prints but at A4 the quality isn't good. Optical zoom is far better than a digital zoom. The Olympus and Canon products fit the pocket easier than the Nikons and I say that as a guy who has used Nikons, 35mm and Digital for the last 25 years. Personal Recomendation would be the Olympus MJU 410 Zoom. Use them at work as they are waterproof.See here HTH Quote
Major Stare Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 I can vouch for the Olympus. I have the mju:300 and its cracking bit of kit, loads of feaures and special effects, fits in the pocket no probs. My wife uses it all the time and she not the brightest person when it comes to camera's, video's, PC's, driving, map reading, DVD's, parking, cooking, cleaning etc etc Quote

Does it produce cloudy pictures with a sort of smoke haze every time you photo your car? In which case it may not be the camera Quote

KerryS Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Konica-Minolta Xg - very compact owing to zoom lens being vertically within body and then optical path turned thru' 90 degress via a prism. About size of a pack of 20 cigarettes. Zoom doesn't project from front so always stays compact. Rechargeable LiOn battery that lasts very well. Factory leather case protects well. Bought to replace an early Olympus with a view to getting a small camera to take everywhere and a bigger one with knobs and buttons eveywhere - see recent thread on digicams and Steppenwolfs great photo - but haven't bothered with that yet. though a friend may be selling his Konica-Minolta A2 soon.
