scorcher Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Had a Corsa 1.3 cdti on order with some options on it ...when to collect yesterday and its not come with all the equipment on it that was ordered and so we've rejected it and got our money back.Bit pi$$ed off now as we screwed a good deal and it was interest free credit and free insurance money off basic price and the options we ordered were free aswell. Now need to find a very nearly new diesel supermini with electric mirrors and air con.Nearly all corsas have one or the other.Tried a fiesta 1.4 tdci today and thought it wasn't so torquey or quiet as corsa but had the toys we want.Going to try a Yaris diesel over the weekend.Anybody have any of these cars or have opinions.Whats the 1.7 diesel corsa like? everthing in this sector seems to be in short supply.Plenty of petrols around but diesel better drive IMHO.Anything else to consider? Thanks in advance Quote
Nick M Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 If they did the deal once, and you like the car, why not tell them to come up with the right car and the right price and you'll buy that one from them ?? Quote
cidersurfer Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 If you signed 'something', screw them again for a better deal. Quote
nlash Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Pug 206 2.0 Hdi Very quick and good handling And 50 mpg Quote
scorcher Posted December 2, 2004 Author Posted December 2, 2004 Got to wait another 6-8 weeks to have another built and delivered .Didn't really want to wait first time around but decided we would because it was exactly want we wanted.Need to buy something in the next couple of days that's ready to go.Pugs......Father had a new diesel 206 and had so many problems with it he sold it after 15 months and bought a Nissan.Still waiting for parts to arrive from France when he sold it back to garage. Customer service was also crap and their was always someone else up at garage besides them complaining.French cars always say "flimsy ,cheap and expensive repairs" to me.And I don't like the French anyway, regardless of where they build their cars. Nick M Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Slight tangent... It really amazes me, and pisses me off, that you have to wait 6-8 weeks (sometimes longer) for a car to be built and for it to arrive at the dealership. It doesn't take that long to build a car and deliver it goodness me. Here in the US if the dealer doesn't have a car available he'll either try and get one from another dealership or they have access to what cars are being built on the production line (certainly as far as US built vehicles go) and they can pick one from there. We had to wait no more than 10 days to get the car we wanted in the colour / spec we wanted. I really don't see why cars built in Europe should be any different. Total b*ll*cks if you ask me... Quote

I do see your point... most French cars have reliability issues and the Pugs are no different. I don't have a 206, just driven a 2.0hdi a few months back which was hired. I thought it drove really well and had fun handling. The 206 is built in Coventry and has a better name than the 307 and the outgoing 406. The factory at Cov had to go on a serious recruiting drive to meet the demand for the 206. I drive a 406 and that really is turning out to be c**p. Got my Mazda 6 on order though which is hopefully going to be a bit better Quote
Ted Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Skoda Fabia if you don't mind the name, I've got an Octavia TDI which has given me no trouble in 3yrs/60,000miles. VW/Audi reliability and quality at a fraction of the cost. TED Quote
Major Stare Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 How about the award winning Fiat Punto 1.3 multijet turbo diesel? Quick and 70mpg? Not the best looking car but the Micra Dci unit is a cracker. Quote
geelhoed Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Skoda Fabia if you don't mind the name Whats wrong with Fabia? Seriously, I think the Skodas are the best deal for Volkswagen quality 9k£ for a 1.9SDi? Where do you find a better deal? Quote
Guest Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Try the Seat range - can't remenber which one, but they have always got good reports (albeit as discounted VW's and there is not much wrong with that) John Quote

The build quality of the Seat is better and it has nice touches like a gas strut on the bonnet rather than a manual stay etc. Not sure I would buy another Skoda, but I would a Seat. Cheers Bazzer Quote
Bananaman Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Do you do a lot of milage? If not try a Mini1, loads of fun, holds it's value well & can be chipped to perform like a Cooper...... 130bhp from a Mini1 Clickety Click P.S. Minis also come in Derv buners too, in fact my brother has one, I don't know why he went for the Derv jobbie as he dose less than 13K/year.... Most small cars seem to have fairly good mpg nowadays +40mpg........ P.P.S. Vauxhall will be worth 3 conkers & 1/2 a boiled sweet in 3 years time Mini will be worth at least 1/2 what you paid for it................ Quote
scorcher Posted December 3, 2004 Author Posted December 3, 2004 Thanks for the replies Lupo a bit smaller than the others ....probably like looking for hens teeth in a diesel. Definitely nothing French. Don't like the styling of the Fabia and the 1.9 sdi is the "slug" of the range.Have a look at the "non-perfomance "figures. Don't like the Seat Ibizas current styling.Had a 2001 1.8T Cupra Ibiza...it was ok but it was flawed in its driving position. Diesel Minis too dear and not the pick ofthe mini range apparently. The Toyota engine struggles to pull the extra weight. The Fiat panda doesn't share the DCi engine with the Micra.Renault Clio and the Micra share the DCi engine. Fiat share their 1.3 diesel engine with the Vauxhall Corsa. A Yaris is now off the list due to my 2 immediate neighbours having them parked on their drives. Probably be a Corsa if we can find the right colour AND spec. Its going to be used privately for a while then as a "loopy learner" device. After driving the 1.2 16v corsa the diesel engine was a far better bet.Petrol models are cheaper but in 3-4 years time its going to be easier to sell a diesel than petrol IMHO. Thanks Scorcher Quote
