Monkeylegend Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Run my own chauffeur business and am lookung to upgrade from a 21/2 year old C class 220 Diesel Merc with 150k miles on the clock but in immaculate condition, to an E class. Mercedes dealer where I bought it from and who have carried out all the servicing at extortionate cost offered me £8k against a £30k 6 month old E class. A non mercedes dealer have offered me £11k against a slightly older £24k E class with 22k miles on the clock. The mercedes dealer then complained to me that sales were very quiet at the moment. What a surprise. Guess which offer I accepted. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Mercedes dealers and service got a bit of a negative response in the recent Top Gear survey Quote
Monkeylegend Posted November 24, 2004 Author Posted November 24, 2004 The standard of servicing at my dealership is normally pretty good but you certainly pay through the nose for it. But at least they wash your car for you. Bless them. Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 hehe. Mercedes. Might have sold one to me dad if they werent being stuck up. Goes in looking at one, no body came over. Goes and talks to the guy at his desk where this well spoken ****** looked down on him. He was asking about paint protectors. Sales man says they do one for £300 and lasts for ten years leaving an acrylic film over the paint. Old man laughed at him and told him more or less, that him and mercedes chums may think they're good, but they aint too clever because autoglym do the same product. For £5.95 Nuther good one. My mates dad went into a local prestige sports car place looking at an Aston Martin. He'd just finished working at his AC company and in his work clothes. Apparently the saleschap looked down his nose at him, until me mates dad showed him the cash and walked out. I think sales men / women should give everyone the same courtesy, because you never know who has the mullah. Wish I had lots of mullah Quote
jonlewis Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Merc recently offered me £5k less than book for an immaculate E320 against a nearly new E Class Estate.... I dont think Merc residuals are quite what they used to be... Quote
peterg Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 neither is the build quality or reliablility from what I heard in the trade, they're coming down to Chrysler levels instead of dragging Chrysler up to the 'old' Merc standards Quote

Wish I had lots of mullah parked westie in front of porsche dealership. in scruffy clothes as i was blattin. walked in started to nose around 911's. salesman came over and started chatting. i explained that i wanted to sell that car over there and my daily driver buy a more refined sportscar (didnt mention my daily driver was a G reg sierra). salesman trying to flog me a boxster s. I explained that i didnt think i would like and it wouldnt be any good on trackdays, whereas a 911 i thought would. "tell you what sir, seeing as you are obviously interested why not come down to croft with us one day next week and try out the boxster s properly." "well okay, twist my arm" Quote
jonlewis Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 My E Clas was the most reliable thing I have ever owned... 1 brakelight bulb in 80,000 miles ! My mate has a new shape one and has had it in for warranty work 6 times in just under 2 years ! Quote
Monkeylegend Posted November 25, 2004 Author Posted November 25, 2004 My mate has a new shape one and has had it in for warranty work 6 times in just under 2 years ! I am told they had some reliability and quality issues with the initial production of the new shape E class but have since overcome them. I hope. I will keep you posted. Had a few niggling problems with the C class but considering the mileage I do it's been pretty good. And I am averaging 53mpg. Don't expect the E class to be quite as good. Have to increase my prices Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 "tell you what sir, seeing as you are obviously interested why not come down to croft with us one day next week and try out the boxster s properly." you sure he didn't mean yer boxter shorts Quote
mark.anson Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 USED to have a C220 CDI Avantgade Merc. Every time it was in for a service it would be getting on for £500. When you look at what they actually do, its the dearest oil change in the world. The final straw for me was when they charged me full retail ie nearly £80 for the Mobil 1 oil. What they also didnt know was that I had put tipex on the wheel nuts to see if they had bothered to remove the wheels.....guess what? After having a load rant in the showroom ie making sure other potential customers could hear, they reduced the price. The following week we took it to the local BMW mini dealership and traded it in for a Mini Cooper for er indoors. They come with 5 Years free serviceing. Nuff said. Quote

I had to replace the disks all round after only 15000 on one and 22000 on the other. BMW dont even take the wheels off til its 2 yrs old by which time the nuts are rusted on. Quote
