zetec engine number

I bought a 2l zetec engine some time ago from a partfinder site - i specificly asked for a pre 95 non cat type.

Now i'm having doubts on the age of it - the engine number is nga wl39089n does the ng or the wl refer to the year?

the WL refers to the date - unfortunately it means Jan 1998 - sorry to be the bearer of bad news.............

Is it worth me continuing with this engine or will the emissions be too much of a problem ?

I don't know a great deal about these engines, i've just been playing it by ear so far. Would i have to change the exhaust i've bought or just replace the silencer ?

You can get silencers with a CAT in, Westfield do one, and Raceline do one also. Are you planning on running injection or carbs ?

Injection - was going to leave standard ford injection unit and then upgrade to TB's at a later date.

Bung a cat in and you should be fine on emissions then.
