Robandcolin Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 It's a yellow 89se with 1700cc Xflow about 135bhp apparently. I will try and bring it on sunday if I find the time to clean it as I drove it down from Cambridge last sunday. It was so very slippery could only put me foot down in fourth and even then it span the wheels while doing about 80!!! See you all there Rob Quote
tonyrendall Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I'll be there if i've recovered from that overtaking manoeuvre of Leon's on Saturday. Couldn't get out of the car the other end as my A*** was still gripping the seat so firmly! Tony Quote

Tony I always thought those middle lanes with the arrows and diagonal lines meant you were supposed to turn right Obviously Leons overtaking area J D Quote
Leon B Posted November 25, 2004 Author Posted November 25, 2004 I was just trying to keep up with the nutter in front Quote
jdinhants Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I was just trying to keep up with the nutter in front What my old diesel with 4 lardys in it Surely not Quote
Nick.Petty Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I hope you're not including me in the lardy description? Oh go on then Quote
felters Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Not sure if I'll be there on Sunday. Regrettably I have to attend an all day company meeting in Twickenham on Saturday, watching the Ozzies getting a good tw@tting. The chances of SWMBO letting me loose on Sunday are pretty remote What I actually meant to say was that I'd be watching us encourage the development of rugby in the southern hemisphere, by letting the Ozzies narrowly win in a match that was completely unimportant Quote
Tukukino Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Hi all, I came down to the meet on Sunday but as I didn't get out of work 'til nearly 2 I missed everybody. There is one pressing question I had though, perhaps you can help? I have just bought myself a 1990 SE running a 2.0l Pinto. Its fantastic in the dry, beautifully balanced and predictably driftable, but can be vicious in the wet. Its lost the back end supprisingly quickly on roundabouts which can make me a little nervous when I'm only trying to keep up with a Mini. Is this an inherant problem with the car or is it the Avons its shod with or is it just mine? Scare stories would be appreciated, solutions even more so. Quote
Al Yupright Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 They do tend to be a bit like that, down to their very character, weight etc. Bad tyres, tyre pressures and damper settings may make it worse. You can afford to go much stiffer on dampers, springs etc for dry weather use, but these wont work well in wet weather use. Also tyres may not reach desired pressures in wet use. Its all a compromise... but one you have to make for a road car. For track use, I alter these settings to suite the weather conditions. Well shock settings, tyre pressures and anti roll bar settings anyway. What avons are they? Driving style also plays a big part! Are you lifting off the throttle or braking while turning? Blending off the brakes and onto the throttle? Quote
