jasonp Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Hotmail are launching regional i.e. .co.uk e-mail addresses. They have not advertised this yet, but you can now register them by using a specific method. * Head over to Hotmail * Enter anything@hotmail.co.uk (this will not be your email address yet) and any password, click "Sign in" * Click "Register with .NET Passport" on the login failiure page * Complete the form, making sure you choose United Kingdom for the country and you have yourself a nice new hotmail.co.uk address I managed to get exactly the one I wanted which had been taken on hotmail.com when I tried 6 years ago Quote

Richgm Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 b******* too. You have made too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts with an incorrect password for: anything@hotmail.co.uk Your account is temporarily unavailable. This is a temporary delay that helps prevent someone else from guessing or obtaining your password. oops. see what you mean now. Enter any email @hotmail.co.uk not "anything" as a word Quote

Steven (WE51STE) Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 HOTMAIL - NO THANKS I've got a few email accounts including a hotmail.com one that I set up many moons ago. The reasons why its bad : Small mail box size Small Attachments The amount of spam that email account gets especially when i've not given out that email address publicly. The real real bad reason : Micro$haft knowing anything about you [ .Net Passport Just Say No - Think About It ] If car manufactures produced cars with as many faulty (not to mention security holes) as Micro$haft software then people would not put up with it. But despite their dubious business practices glossed over with loads of markerting, people blindly follow. WHY /Flame Suit On Quote
Phssthpok Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 .......my Hotmail Yahoo accounts have 250mb limits (not bad for free) .......I don't have problems with attachment size .......I have yet to be Spammed on either of them (set your filters up) .......using Hotmail means that I can use it as a clearing house for Internet enquiries which leaves my NTL email for friends and family. .......if Microsoft want to use my demographic information they're welcome: I'm a 86 year old female accountant living in Kansas with a pet dog called Buttocks. peterg Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Mooncloud - Hotmail free accounts are all now 250MB with attachments up to 10MB allowed, only ever had one lot of spam and that was sorted quickly never had any more since ..... I'd rather that than have a Google Gmail account where everything you write/receive is monitored Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 /Double Strength Flame Suit On Miro$hatf only recently upped their limits after most of the other mail providers had much bigger limits. You talk about email being scanned. What makes you think that Micro$haft does / would not do this. .Net Passport is not just about knowing your demographics its their first step to becoming the gate keeper of the Internet and holding all your information. That way it will tie everyone one into Micro$hatf products. Now remind me whats their track record on anti-competitive behavior ? Even with all the $$$ spent on marketing no one has been able to defend the poor software reliability and lack of security of the Mirco$hatf products. While we are talking about security please remind me how many viruses there are on the Linux and Unix operating systems ? Just my 2P worth Quote
timd Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Jeez, how paranoid are you? How do you ever leave the house in the morning?? Dunno what you send in web based emails but I'm pretty sure nobody in microsoft (or anywhere else for that matter) really GAF! Quote

jonlewis Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 The high proliferation of Microsoft products means that far more DoS and Virus attacks are placed upon them. Additionally, a large majority of Microsoft run environments are outward facing, therefore an easy target. As someone who has worked in the industry for many years, mainly on Unix, I can point to quite a few security loopholes in many parts of an IT infrastructure.... not all of them keeping up Bill's lifestyle.
