samcooke Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 I hadn't done much on ebay before but when my 924 turbo dropeed a valve I thought that would be the best way of getting rid. Sold it broken for £3525 So I thought I'd try the Sierra Cosworth - twice the power, ten times the heritage, and it works. No one wanted it. Any ideas why? What's so special about the 924 that isn't about the cossie? As far as I'm concerned if a broken 924 is £3500 a working Cossie should be £7000. TIA Confused, Suffolk Quote
perksy Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Have you tried Pistonheads.com and findit.co.uk both worth a try Quote
scruffythefirst Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Cossies arent worth much above 4-5k these days, in bits you'll probably get 7k. If i had any money at all i'd have had it. Try passionford.com Quote
samcooke Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 So why is a busted 924 worth so much? I was thinking about striping up the Cossie to make it more obviously a race car and less like a road car in a bad colour. Martini livery I reckon. Would we like this? Quote
Mark B Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 924 race series probably makes the porker kind of sought after, whereas sapphires are two a penny, even though yours is probably better than the average. As I said before, cosworths are worth more in bits these days, I have 2 friends who've both broken sapphires in the past 12 months & got over twice what they would as full cars by selling the bits on ebay! Might be something to consider? Mark. Quote
worldwidewebs Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 twice the power, ten times the heritage You 'avin a larf? Quote
Mark B Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Mornin Andy! I think sam is comparing the sierra cosworths rally heritage to the 924, not to porsche in general........ Go and have a cup of tea and calm down now! Mark. Quote
samcooke Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 I think sam is comparing the sierra cosworths rally heritage to the 924 Er, obviously. Although I'd actually argue Cosworth has as much circuit racing heritage as Porsche.... Quote
Mark B Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I'd agree with that too, cosworth DFV V8 -the most succesful f1 engine EVER... Quote
Mark B Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Still better than racing overgrown beetles Quote
BEN99W Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Well given the Cossy's reputation, if I was buying one, I wouldn't get one on ebay. I'd be looking out for a well cared for example that I could crawl all over, rifle through the history see start up from cold and enjoy a decent drive in. You aren't going to be able to determine that its a decent motor on ebay. If I were you I'd hook up with the RS owners and fast ford owners clubs - they'll take you more seriously and be confident enough to buy one. Ebay is a lazy way to buy a car and yet it's easy for an unscrupulous seller to find a buyer who has more enthusiasm than sense. I think anyone who is genuinely in the market for a Cossy would feel aprehensive about such a selling medium. Its a bizarre fact that most cars sold on there actually acheive more than their market value (so maybe stick it on there again ) Quote
darren.cudd Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 agree with ben. 7k is quite allot for a saff and depending on what spec the engine is i think you would only be able to get that for it by selling it on passionford.com (plug ) what power ect ect? Quote
