adhawkins Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Myself and the Welsh Wizard experienced an aeroscreen 1st hand yesterday (minus helmets). Overall it was a lot better than I was expecting. We got up to about 100MPH at one point (thanks Malcolm ) without too much drama apart from some sunglass vibration (that would be prevented if I'd been wearing the strap with my XL1s). Luned seemed to find it Ok too. Not sure how much fun it'd be if it were raining heavily, I guess we've got that experience to come! Andy Quote

adhawkins Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 I'm sure... The only reason you got away was cos I backed off...Luned was reaching for the FIA kill switch . I'll have to remember to switch the dash display over to revs before doing anything like that again I knew it was a bad idea having it on the passenger side Andy Quote

Crash Override Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Andy, you'll have to try Fish hill when it's dry so you can push it round the bends - if you can't manage at least 60 round the first tight bend you're not trying hard enough. The only reason you got away was cos I backed off...Luned was reaching for the FIA kill switch ,I knew it was a bad idea having it on the passenger side Do her shoulder straps up a bit more, then she will not be able to lean forwards and reach it. You seemed to have forgotten the fact that your hat looked even more silly than usual as it rode up your head Luned LOL Quote
welsh wizard Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Do her shoulder straps up a bit more, then she will not be able to lean forwards and reach it. I don't think that would've made any difference. The switch is within my reach; I don't need to lean forwards Luned Quote
adhawkins Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 The switch is within my reach; I don't need to lean forwards Definitely a design flaw there... Andy Quote
adhawkins Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 better still take the seat out Road going class, have to have one Anyway, going out in the Westfield is the best quality time we get together Andy Quote
Chopkins Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 I'm too bl**** sensible for my own good. I spent ages pondering - 'To aeroscreen or not to aeroscreen?' I ended up going with a windscreen and all of the heavy stuff that goes with it. Reason is that I've had a few huge stones hit my car Windscreen/A Pillars recently (probably caused by naff roads and muppets drifting off the fast lane of the M42/M40 and and then covering the carriageways with the stones from the central reservation) - Evertime a stone has hit my car they have made a HUGE bang and have resulted in paint/panel or glass damage. Whilst I've got a thick head, -The thought of a 1/2 - 1 inch diameter stone hitting my forehead at 70/80mph+ makes me shudder. What makes me shudder even more are the daft looks that my girlfriend and I would get zooming about the Warwickshire/Staffs countryside on a Sunday afternoon wearing racing helmets & visors. I would love to fit aeroscreens to my new Westie as they look the mutts nutts but I guess that I'm just too chicken. - cluck, cluck, cluck Yours sensibly, conservatively and wussy Chopkins Quote
P W Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 My first westy had a windscreen and as dan says the wind swirls around in the cockpit (even worse with no side screens - you really cant breath !! . Aerodynamics are not good, obviously, you'll really notice this on track when you have nothing left at 100 - 110 mph unless your running loads of bhp !! 2nd and current westy has aero - I was pleasantly surprised how the airflow went straight over my head - as others have said, the only potential downside it being physically hit by something - never happened to me yet. Big sunglasses or helmets are a good idea - if your bothered about people looking at you, dont buy a westy !! As Paul from Rotherham told the driver of a Lamborghini in the Lakes on last years coast to coast - ' if you want to get noticed mate....get yourself one of these !' Quote
neilb Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 On the point of being hit by stones, the only time that I have been hit was when I was the passenger in a car with a screen and I have not had a problem with my aeroscreened car in the 4-5k miles that I have done. Quote
