Had a chat with Persil last night (cheers chap) and the PC is connected to the net via the icon on my desktop, yet no website is displayed?????

MY ISP say there are no problems  :arse:

Anyone offer any advise?????

Maybe Persil will reply to give more details....please mate :)

The two things I always try before calling the IT department are

Is it pluged in ?

Have you hit it ?

If neither of these work I can't help and I don't think that our IT guys would like me giving their number out :D:D:D

Good luck though ;)

And as usual Navin's help is utterly useless, if it doesnt involve a X-flow, beer, running out of petrol or drooling over bar staff,.........its no good ;)

Are you using a modem?

Does it connect to the internet?

(modem users normally see two green flashy computer screen lights by the clock)

If the answer 2 are 'Yes' then it sounds like a DNS issue

(try getting to google by typing http://http://66.102.9.99)

If that works then your Dialup settings (if modem) are at fault

If this is the case let me know which ISP you use & I'll let you know what do

Im on NTL 1MEG broadband which is constantly connected via a Modem.

All lights are green connected and its flashing on the "activity" lights.

I went into Windows SafeMode and ping'd Google which was fine, but when i ping'd NTL it kept timing out.

I need to get this sorted as i now have to talk to the wife instead of the WSCC Boadroom  :p  :D

Do you have a firewall installed ?

If so try shutting that down and see if you can get out the WWW.

If your plugged into the set top box try powering that off, remove the card, clean it with a cloth put it back in and power up again. Re boot the PC and see what happens then

I have get this a lot with NTL

Whenever my NTL broadband gives trouble, like it won't find the internet, I switch off the cable modem (mine accesses the computer via the LAN port) for 1 minute, repower it and wait for all winky lighhts to come on and it's usually OK then. If there's a router attached power that down too.

agree with turn the modem off at the wall for a few minutes and turn it back on. it'll find its own settings and should be fine. just read a bit about this in a comp mag recently, they reckon'd with it being on all the time, if its not being used the connection can become stale.

hope u get it sorted.
