Mark B Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Otherwise there's a dry sump kit for a zetec on ebay at the moment, currently at 205 quid, you might get a bargain. The user name looks like a fellow member........ Here's the link. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws....me=WDVW Mark. Quote
MartinH Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Scholar sump is £155 +VAT Scholar Engines Tel: 01449 767711 Quote
adhawkins Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 And the 'daddy' of them all is Raceline's baffled sump. I think that's up around the 500 quid mark... Expensive, but an impressive bit of kit by all accounts. Andy Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 A properly baffled sump should be more than adequate for your purposes unless you are going to be involved in extreme high G manoeuvres. A dry sump is all well and good but it adds another level of complexity and a fault in the system usually results in disaster. The Raceline Cast Wet sump would be an excellent choice as it has proper baffles for in line configuration, cooling fins, a separate finger filter and an increased oil capacity (5 litres) all with no additional moving parts! Matt Seabrook Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Go for the Scholar sump if it’s the same as the Dunnell sump. A friend races a Westy with a 1800cc Zetec and Dunnell sump on A032 super softs with no oil problems and he is bl**** quick. The Raceline sump is £421.83 inc vat a nice bit of kit but @ £182.13 for the Scholar one its a no brainer unless you plan to get under the car and polish the sump and marvel at what a nice bit of kit it is. Don’t get me wrong the Raceline sump is very good but not @ nearly £240 extra for just aesthetics seems like a lot on something you don’t look at until you change the oil. And the Dunnell/Scholar one works very very well Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 its a no brainer unless you plan to get under the car and polish the sump and marvel at what a nice bit of kit it is Which is obviously a major reason for owning said sump - I find that a light rub down with 1500 grit wet and dry and an application of Autosol hand polished in with a sheepskin buffer brings out that under-car shine a treat. No more lost nuts for me, I can find them in the reflection in the bottom of the car ... Quote

BEN99W Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Do Factory built westfields came with a modified sump then? Mines a '94 vintage ZEi and I always assumed that it had the standard sump for front wheel drive applications. Is there any visual clue to indicate it's been modified (without removing it! - I 'spose i could always call the factory.... Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 If the bottom of the sump is chamfered at an angle from one side to the other and there is a concave 'hump' underneath then it is the standard Ford sump. The 'hump' underneath is for the exhaust to pass under in the donor vehicle! Quote
adhawkins Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Is there any visual clue to indicate it's been modified (without removing it! - I 'spose i could always call the factory.... The obvious clue is (as Stepps says) lack of a 'step' in the sump. Also, you'll see the welds if you look Andy Quote
Blatman Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Bit late on this one, but for my own sanity... what sort of money are we talking here Don't worry too much about what the sump costs. Even the most expensive one is cheaper than an engine rebuild. There is obviously a value for money question which means the Scholar sump looks like the one to have unless you are a pensioner with a fetish for 1500 wet and dry and Autosol... Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 eeeeewwwww a separate finger filter So you find many fingers floating round in yer engine Quote
