hilux Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Sorry to hear of you dilemma, there are companies that can recover data from floppy`s that your pc wont read. Have you tried it in another PC? In the future I recommend you buy a USB storage device to carry your stuff around with, simply plugs into a USB port and your puter sees it as an extra drive. Simply drag and drop as required. Mine was only about £16 for 16 Mb Quote

Frau Vesty Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Scuze the numpty question, but isn't there a possibility that the data is stored in some temporary file on the pc if it hasn't been switched off yet Quote
Blatman Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Good call. Try Start > Documents.... Although it'll probably ask you to insert the disc, if it isn't currently inserted. Worth a try though... Quote
mr-rad Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 It may be worth getting a copy of Norton disk doctor and having a go with that it may recover your information. It works for me sometimes. Quote
adhawkins Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Tell me you didn't save the only copy onto the floppy? Andy Quote
v7slr Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Try a floppy drive in another machine. Sometimes read/write heads can be misaligned. Floppy's are a bit agricultural. Quote
hilux Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Tell me you didn't save the only copy onto the floppy? It would seem so or he wouldnt be asking I hadnt the nerve to ask in case he shouted at me Quote
Liam Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Had a word with my son in law who knows about stuff and he says... 'He would need to go to the website http://www.webattack.com/get/pcinspector.shtml and download and install pcinspector file recovery program. Once installed run this program and put the floppy in, choose "recover deleted files", select the floppy disk and find the file he wants (make sure if there are multiple copies on the disk that he gets the right one) and then copy and paste this to his hard drive. Verify the file is ok and then do a full (not quick) format on the floppy and recopy the file from the hard drive to the floppy. Then tell him to get a USB flash drive if compatible with his PC as these are much better! Quote
