Steve and Becky Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Hi, Firstly ill introduce myself, I, or should I say we (Got to keep her happy) Started on the Westfield build earlier this year, a few delays aside, just started really building this weekend. Engine and gearbox out of a sierra, along with Diff, still looking for a LSD. Ive hit a couple of issues. 1, Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Pinto Loom (Westfield supplied) not sure where it should be routed.? 2, Simalar thing for the Fuel pipe, looks a bit long to just go under the car, should it bend? if so what the best route? So gues im looking for a couple of maps to guide me... Cheers guys n gals.... im sure this is going to be so much fun. p.s. Anyone up in North Yorkshire area? Quote
geelhoed Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 On question 2: route them through the tunnel, if you search you should find plenty of posts about it, take care to leave enough space around the diff area though. Quote
Steve and Becky Posted October 25, 2004 Author Posted October 25, 2004 Brake pipes already routed under drivers side of the car, seem ok, with they be? As for Fuel pipe, are these sopposed to bend? Its more a case of where they should go once under the car, at the front and rear. Quote
adhawkins Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Brake pipes already routed under drivers side of the car, seem ok, with they be? It's not necessarily a problem to have them running under the floor of the car (the factory do it this way I think). I think the main reason for concern is if you happened to ground the car on a kerb (on a track day say). If you do this, you run the risk of rupturing either brake or fuel line, not an ideal occurrence! Andy Quote
mark.anson Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Probably the best advice i can give is go along to a club meet and take a look and some photos of someones car. There will be loads of free advice and for the price of a beer or two no doubt some help along the way with the really awkward bits. Mark Quote
deller Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Normally they run under the car in a similar fashion to the brake pipes and then both ends are bent - around 70 degrees at the rear of the car and 80 degrees at the front (angle not critical but they are generally bent to face the sky! If you can it's probably a good idea to run them through the tunnel. When you bend them they are quite stiff so use a pipe bender if you can and use a 5mm rod of brass or ally inserted in the pipe to support it while you bend it (it will collapse otherwise) and then pull it out after (use a vice to hold the pipe while you do this) cheers Paul Quote
Steve and Becky Posted October 25, 2004 Author Posted October 25, 2004 Thanks for the advise Peeps, Im going to run the fuel line under the passenger side of the car, then there is less pipework in the engine bay. Cheers Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Fuel pipes in engine bay Fuel pipes from rear with filter on westfiels mounting bracket Fuel pipes running along drivers floor Barry Quote
geelhoed Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 When you bend them they are quite stiff so use a pipe bender if you can I used a native pipebending tool. Actually ten, of the mark I finger variety. It works quite well, I didn't kink any of the fuel or brake pipes. Today's top tip: make sure you tape the connectors on the brakepipes to the ends, wouldn't want to find them stuck behind a bend Quote
karlgurney Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 1, Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Pinto Loom (Westfield supplied) not sure where it should be routed.? I have a wiring diagram around somewhere, but it doesn't really tell you how to route it. A hole should be cut in the panel in front of the gear lever under the scuttle for the main gromet to fix into, you should now have the wires under the scuttle for the dash instruments. Next fix the wiring loom to the tunnel with the p-clips or other suitable fixings, in the engine bay the loom should exit it the tunnel on the left, with the main earthing lead fixed to the earthing point, route the loom around the engine bay clockwise. With the last connection being the alternator and r/h side repeater. With the loom at the rear just route it the best you can so that the l/h and r/h light cluster connections will reach the relative lights, everything else at the rear should fit fine after that. I hope this help, if you would still like a wiring diagram i could try finding it for you. Karl Quote
