scorcher Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Just thought I'd run some quotes for a few cars for comparison to what i was paying for Westie and some of the other high performance models I'd quite like to have parked in the garage.Got to Cateringvan and put in 1.4 model and got quoted £698.Expensive I thought. Then changed it to R500 and it quoted.............£698 again. So I could have a slug or a rocket ship for exactly the same price.MAD!!Its a shame all the other rocketships didn't have comparable quotes with their lesser siblings. Its a shame that Westfield is seen as a kit car producer only in some peoples eyes but Cateringvan always seems to get listed as a mainstream producer.Anyone else had horrendous/surprisingly nice quotes for something they fancied? adhawkins Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Don't even think about insuring a kit car with a mainstream insurer. My 2 litre Zetec costs me about 250 quid a year. Go for one of the kit car specialists. MSM, Footman James, Sureterm, etc. A search on here will pull up all the favourites. Andy Quote
Fat Albert Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Scorcher Just for your info (apologies if sucking eggs applies), Tesco Insurance is operated by UK Insurance Plc, who provide branded insurance services for well known high street names like Direct Line and Peugeot to name but two. Despite using the same computer systems (I know this because I had cars insured with Tesco and Direct Line) quotes can vary as can after sales support. This February my then 20 year old stopped at a roundabout and the blue rinsed driver of the 206 behind him didn't. Despite the both drivers being insured by the SAME underwriters with information regarding the incident held on the SAME computer hardware and ALL the people involved working in the SAME building, getting a satisfactory settlement was like getting blood out of a stone. OK there is a great deal of insurance fraud committed by customers but that does not justify the industry's deliberately obstructive tactics. I will never forget getting quotes for Peugoet 307 and Citroen ZX diesels a few years ago, from the centre line of the wheels downwards they are the SAME car. Why was the average quote for the Citroen 50% more than the Peugeot? The car insurance industry stinks, there can be no clearer example of the need for a Freedom Of Information act which forces insurance companys to make public the information behind which it hides it's abuse of it's customers. Pepi Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Got to agree with Andy here, always insure my Seight through specialised kit car comps. Adrian Flux etc. But one day "just out of curiosity" I asked for a quote through my local insurance brokers to see what rate they would come up with. The best they could was (wait for it) £1613.00 compared to Flux for £237. No contest really !!!!! Quote
