jak Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 kerry, Get yourself to the factory with me next month and buy some goodies for the kit - upgrades before completing the build, you know it makes sense John. Quote
Enterpryse Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Plasmas can be subject to burn in- mega bucks to replace, LCDs loss of pixels (and plasmas too actually)- again loadsa dosh to fix, and projector bulbs live for about 800 hrs and cost anything from £200 up. Good CRT's still exhibit bloom or poor convergence at extremeties even when new IMO but offer best value even if they are bigger. You pays you money........etc etc. Quote
cidersurfer Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 By a crap 2nd hand T.V for a tenner and spend the rest on booze......you won't notice any difference in picture quality Quote
KerryS Posted November 26, 2004 Author Posted November 26, 2004 Update Have ordered a Toshiba 32WL48 and a Denon 550DHT from unbeatable. From opinons offered I went for LCD with HDTV compatibility. Both units are progressive scan compatible and the Denon system has an active sub. Denon is here and tv due next week. Downside of unbeatable is that they use Initial City-Link who must be the worst carriers in the universe. TV was £1400 and the Denon £580. Now I know this would buy a lot of cinema tickets but I cannot stand the smell of popcorn, folks talking behind/in-front of you, not being able to go for a pee/get more wine, sitting behind the local giant etc etc etc Kerry S PS Have also got a 17" TFT screen to replace the 15" one purchased nearly 4 years ago for £600+ - how times have changed!!! chrisbin Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 You poor thing, it must have been terrible. Sorry Freudian slip......I meant to say parasite. Mmmm... Throughout the whole process I have had a moral dilema as I did not agree with this blame/claim culture that's creeping across the Atlantic and forcing up our insurance premiums too. However, avarice overcame the objections but I didn't push it as hard as I could have done and I think the solicitor, who's on a percentage cut, was a bit fed up with me not going for a bigger settlement. So I hope I have partly apeased your view of me as a parasite... but perhaps not. Re TVs, 32" is as big as I want to go as viewing distance will be about 6 to 8 feet - including gaining gain a foot or so with a LCD/Plasma being thinner. I don't think there are any plasma screens this size are there? Re waiting - doesn't apply to just about everything electronic? Anyway, cheque's not come yet. Kerry S Kerry S Principles so high that they then removed their post...... Couldn't agree more about Citylink - had to go and collect from their warehouse on Friday after they "tried" to deliver twice.....Trouble is that the system I ordered was £100 cheaper from the supplier compared to High Street, so I guess you pays your money.... I know! Basically, online they have to compete with other online prices...and you have to deal with delivery hassle. In high street they compete with other high street prices... Quote
steve wilson Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 A friend of mine is on her second plasma TV after her 7 Year old daughter sprayed Mr sheen on the screen trying to be helpfull Insurance said it would have to have a new screen which cost too much so they replaced the TV. Quote
