Me too - I can't help but think he was being manipulated by his manager (Button has now left his services but that was known before todays announcement).

I feel sorry for Anthony Davidson who was all set to jump in Buttons seat had he gone to Williams.

Could be the Catalyst to push Bar/Honda to a better

season and Button could hopefully thank his luckies

after all .Time alone will tell.

Inevitably there was more behind this than was available to the public. With Dave Richards' successful track record and the progress this season of the team - both Button & Sato - the whole thing made no sense. BUT there would be all sorts of secret whealing and dealing on the ££ front no doubt. FW seems to treat his drivers as an expendable comodity so, ££ aside, I think it's good for JB

I wonder if Button didn't *want* to move to Williams anymore due to the performance of the BAR, but Frank exercised his "option" anyway forcing the issue?

Conspiracy theorists of the world unite...

Im glad too. Like blatters I think hes back pedaled sharpish, after realising the BAR is more likeley to give him his first win.

I hope he takes a large slice of humble pie and consumes it in front of all the BAR team.

Cant help thinking blatters has a point but im glad he's staying it was the right thing.

Sorry frank your going to have to wait for boy wonder :p  :D

Button will never win the world championship driving for BAR, he might driving for Williams. At Monza, both Ferraris were in a different league to the BAR, Barrichello's slowest lap in his third stint was 1.5s faster than JB's fastest lap of the entire race. Do you really think that BAR will find another quantum leap in performance?

JB's attitude hasn't changed, he doesn't want to be there, and BAR, if they've any sense, don't want him there either. DR's role was on the line, OK he won the court case but now he needs to do what's best for his team and that is never having a driver whose heart isn't in it. Just look a Montoya this season.

Incidentally, there is a black hole in BAR's finances, JB had a per point bonus (Nelson Piquet went to Bennetton on a $100,000 per point deal and that was in 1990), care to bet that DR didn't factor 85 points in his budget and that the resolution of the dispute over payment is why JB says BAR have behaved professionally?

BAR didn't expect to be as competitive as they have been this season, this leads me to conclude that they don't know why they have been, not a good sign for the future

heard it on the ITV news last night. He's probably better off stopping at BAR as williams will not doing much next year. At least David Coulthard might get a job.... well thats if he doesn't spin off on the way to the interview!

Sorry, I disagree there. BAR have knocked Williams into a cocked hat this year. In fact, Williams wil be 4th in the constructors this year, behind Renault. Besides, never say never... well, once Schumacher has retired at least...

At Monza, both Ferraris were in a different league.....

You can't compare anyone with Ferrari when the GP is at Monza. It's Ferraris home race, and they pull out all the stops. I think Honda would dearly like to win the constructors championship, and I think their performance this year will only serve to encourage them. I think they can beat the Ferraris as a team. I think though (as I've hinted) that a World Drivers Champ will have to wait for MS to retire, or have a spectacularly bad year...

I think that's enough thinking for one post... :D

I was hoping Button would get the nod that he could move.

A. So we could see him back at williams.

B. So we could see Davidson in a race drive at BAR.

C. So coulthard had no option!

Davidson is often quicker than MSchu in the Friday practices, and is almost always quicker than Button. Now BAR are a top-team, he wont be allowed to run on Fridays anymore IIRC.

If they hadnt had this whole shebang, we allegedly would've seen Hakkinen back driving the 2nd Williams too. But he withdrew after Buttongate saying he wasnt prepared to hang around if they preferred Button.

im glad to here that button is stayin too, havin watched all the races bar 1 when i was in america, felt that button and the b.a.r team have done way better than the williams team. i dunno why button felt that next yr he'll be world champ with williams because the way M shumacher and the ferrari crew are going williams would need a MEGA car to beat them.

Blatters

Following the Brazilian GP, do you still think Button has more chance at BAR?

It'll be a wasted year

Honda have come into F1 a couple of times before....

Honda have won a couple of times before...

Honda became much more involved this year and the result was catapulting them from also rans to 2nd in the championship.

I would never bet long term against them.
