custardtart Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Can anyone help? I've done a search and it hasn't shown anything too relevant up. What I need are new rear disc caliper mounting brackets. They are made from cast iron and have the following part number stamped onto them. 0671-4. Does anyone know where I can get them from? I have posted the rather tedious reasons why I need them below. I have a 96 SE with a rear disc conversion using seirra single pot calipers. Having recently aquired the car I used it only on the track, racing in the 750mc Kits. However, after a couple of outings it was clear that the rear brakes were doing most of the work and overheating. Lock up tests confirmed they would lock up well before the fronts despite tilting the brake bias fully to the fronts. The pedal was very soft and would go long after a few laps, presumably due to the fluid overheating. I changed all the calipers, front and rear, new discs and EBC Green pads all round. I even isolated the Brake Bias valve - no change. The one success I had was to blank off the rear calipers and then the fronts worked perfectly with good pedal pressure. I finally traced the problem to the rear caliper mounting brackets which attached the calipers to the axle mounts. Specifically the mounting points seemed to have been filed down to a slight angle causing the caliprs to line the pads up at an angle rather than square to the discs. This caused the pads to wear down at an angle rather than evenly across the whole face and meant that when the brake pedal was applied the caliper was twisting as it attempted to starighten against the disc. So what I need are new rear disc caliper mounting brackets. They are made from cast iron and have the following part number stamped onto them. 0671-4. Does anyone know where I can get them from? custardtart Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Thanks for that, I've just spoke to them both and unfortunately they only have the mounting brackets for sierra cosworth rear calipers. The calipers I have are single pot which I don't think the cosworths are. Quote
custardtart Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 It looks like a Ford item, it's a proper cast iron design but the local Ford dealers couldn't find it. I may try and take a digital pic and get it uploaded. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Peter I'll try and speak to someone I know that may be able to identify it and what its from Quote
scruffythefirst Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 for sierra cosworth rear calipers IIRC the 2wd safs and 4wd safs are xr4x4 rear calipers, which might well be the same as a normal sierra. They are definately 1 pot jobs. Quote
custardtart Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Here they are. Sorry about the size, not too good at this. Quote
Blatman Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Yup. Bog standard XR4x4/Granada/Sierra rear caliper by the looks of things.... Don't be put off by the "Cosworth" label, they're all the same. IIRC, only late model Escort Cosworths had a different caliper to those... Quote
custardtart Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Thanks for the help, I was put off track by suggestions that cossie calipers were 2 pot so thanks for setting it straight. Is it possible to buy just this part and not the whole caliper and does anyone know exactly what it's called?(i've been calling it a caliper mounting bracket) Wonder why the Ford dealer couldn't find it? Cheers for the replies, this is my first time on this forum and the help has been first class and bloomin quick! Quote
scruffythefirst Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 They dont look like they've had anything ground off them, so that might not be your problem. Best bet for replacements would be a scrapyard. Quote
Blatman Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Look on the For Sale section. I think "Highwayman" is or was selling some complete recon calipers for 35 quid each. And very nice they are too... It's also worth searching the archives here for Brakes International. They seem to be a dealer of some repute, with excellent prices... Quote
custardtart Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Yeah it's hard to see but the flat, circular area around the bolt holes are ground slightly at an angle, the nearside is worse than the far side on this one but the other caliper is really bad. Quote
pete g Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 can you not get them dressed back square . Quote
