darren.cudd Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 hi people, looking at upgrading my front brakes to something fairly capable i want to go bigger disks as well if i can but dont know what there is on the market that will fit and what calipers to go for? i dont really want to spend silly money but am expecting it to be in the £500-800 mark? so what do others use? and pics would be great if you have any cheers Quote
adhawkins Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Why do you want bigger disks? The most common upgrades I've read about on here are just a straight pad swap (Mintex 1144s, EBC Greenstuff or Ferrodos seem favourites) or perhaps going for alloy 4 pots to save some weight (but this seems to need a new master cylinder too). darren.cudd Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 hi andy, i wanted bigger disks because 1, the standard ones look lost under the 16" rims:( and 2, the car is rather fast and scares the sh#t out of me so i really wanted the best brakes posible. my mate runs cosworth front setup and that feels alot better than mine but wanted alloy calipers really:) Quote
taffy Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Blimy Darren, My car has the old M16 fronts and Granny rears and itl stop on a sixpence. The cars only weigh 600kg, so there is plenty of stopping power. Id rather spend dosh, on going than stopping! Rob Quote

pete g Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 darren i run 285mm vented on front with wilwood dynalite billets on 16" rims you can go bigger but these are big enough.can get kit from rally design. run 272-10mm solid cosworth rear disc on rear ,use standard caliper just make up a bracket ,very easy to space out. use standard master cylinder[if using smaller pistons] and standard pads.brakes are excellent need to be strapped in tight or you will hit windscreen first time you use them. because they bigger dont need so much effort on brake pedal. regards pete Quote
