Boxy Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Hey all, I bought my pride and joy this february, love it to bits. The only problem it it's my only car! Running it everyday this winter is going to be fun when the roads start to ice. I already had a nice 80Mph 4 wheel slide over the mountain section in the wet this weekend (it was nice and predictable which was cool) I am completely mad for subjecting myself to this, considering this is forcast to be one of the worst winters on record! *Grabs brolly and waders* Quote
taffy Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 Hi Boxy, See my post about winter tights for men! Get yourself kitted out, Westy coat, Wersty Brolley, Shovel, Torch etc etc, you should be ok! I used to travel over the Bwlch and Rigos mountains every day, no probs! Rob Quote
Boxy Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 Excellent, I just need to make sure I wear them on my legs and not my head when I go to pay for the petrol Quote
stu999 Posted October 18, 2004 Posted October 18, 2004 I am completely mad for subjecting myself to this, considering this is forcast to be one of the worst winters on record! I heard a similar announcement on the radio the other day. "Forcasters are saying that this winter is likely to be the worst on record this century..." Later, it dawned on me that there has only been a few years gone of this century... Besides, how the hell do they know? They cant accurately predict the weather for tomorrow... Quote
slippy Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Your a brave man and I like your style, could your funds not stretch to a banger for work duties ? Quote
gee_fin Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Winter running can be done, from a driving perspective it's purely discomfort - cold, wet, poor visibility, driving on a knife edge all the time - all things some people can put up with. However, the thing that people seem to gloss over is the damage it does to your car. The salty roads and constant wet running destroy the car. Everything will rust, there will be salt in every area eating away at it. After running my car over one winter the car seemed to have aged three years come March, and that was despite oiling/lubing everything on a very frequent basis. These things are not made for winter running, even if you feel you can brave it out. The only way I would run it over winter is if I had no other choice whatsoever and had a heated garage where I could fully hose down the car after each run. Graeme. Quote
