Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Just read in this weeks Motorsport News that Tony Lanfranchi has died The guy was a proper racer I remember many of his battles in saloon cars with Gerry Marshall back in the late sixties/early seventies he drove just about everything from Moskovich's to F5000, he even tested F1 for Ken Tyrrell. Guys like him are just not around any more, he will be sadly missed Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Yep twas sad news Lets not forget it was Tony LanFranchi that also co-drove what is now Tom Greens V8 beastie in the British GT Championship Was great seeing a V8 Westfield tearing down Silverstone home straight overtaking an XK220 Jag Quote
Fat Albert Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Tony was a top bloke I remember that he had dual nationality (English & Swiss) and would always enter a country using one passport and leave it using the other, which of course meant he never paid income tax anywhere He had a non PC attitude to just about anything, I remember him dismissing Jackie Stewart's 70s safety campaign with the observation, if you want to make circuits safer, buy up Beeching's surplus railway sleepers, sharpen one end to a point and fix them sharp point facing in on the outside of every corner, I guarantee NO-ONE will fall off more than once Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Top racer , always got yer monies worth whenever you saw that Phsycadellic helmet on the grid. Quote
