Tom Lyons Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Hi, Ive got to the point of fitting the scuttle to the bodywork, but am having difficulties in getting it to sit flush onto the top edge of the side panels. I have sanded it quite a bit, but it is still sitting about 3mm higher when it is positioned on the blocks. This is happening on both sides. Any idea what the gap should be or any suggestions of how I can reduce it??? Any comments are welcomed. Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 This doesn't sound right at all. I know that the factory have changed the profile of the alignment blocks since fitting mine (I asume athat yours are 'lozenge' shaped with sharpish edges rather than elongated 'pyramids' with very smooth edges?). Either way, 3mm proud would seem to be too much. Have you spoken to the guys on the factory floor? I find them to be very helpful with issues like this. Quote
Rob Navin Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Tom I guess that you have the newer type with locating lugs on the tub to locate the scuttle ? If this is the case my thourght would be thet the gell coat on the lugs is stoping the scuttle locating properly. I would give those a file down to ensue that they are not too tight a fit. Also have you tried bolting the scuttle on ? Does the gap dissapear when the bolts are tightened or on ? If you can let us have a bit more info we may be able to help more. Quote
predawson Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Hi, Mine were tight too so I filed them down a bit and the rest got taken up when I tightened the screws down. I assume you haven't riveted the tub to the chassis yet?? Quote
Saltydog!! Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 I've yet to get this far with my build, however reading through the various build sites it's not uncommon to get this problem. I would also suggest talking to the factory first as steppenwolf advices. Any action taken to file, cut or otherwise modify the blocks is then best done in small steps - checking the fit each time until it is acceptable. HTH: Quote

Agreed, my scuttle was on and off about 10 times while I filed those little blocks. Eventually resorting to the sanding disk on the drill to shift some large chunks of gel coat. Quote
neilwillis Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 I had a similar game with the bonnet blocks - I reached fresh air on one side before it'd sit properly! Quote
Tom Lyons Posted October 14, 2004 Author Posted October 14, 2004 Cheers Guy's Yeah the vehicle is brand new and only about 3 months old. I intend having another crack at it tonight, and will fit it as best as possible and screw it on properly then see how it looks. Fingers cross. Failing that I will attach some photos later.
