karlgurney Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I'm asking this question for a friend who is keen to know more about this kind of project? Has anybody had any experience with these Hawk cars Anybody know anybody whos built one? Any idea if this is a good replica kit? Any help or comments would be appreciated. Cheers Karl Quote
peterg Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Friend of mine is building one as we speak! he hasn't had any real probs with it as far as I know but I'll happily put your friend in touch with him, send me an email address and I'll pass it on to him Quote
Blatman Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 What you can't see is the proper Ferrari V6 and correct gearbox that were fitted to the original Stratos. 7000rpm down Indianapolis on Mad Friday. The looks you get Quote
karlgurney Posted October 14, 2004 Author Posted October 14, 2004 Cheers peter i'll let him know, however i think once he finds out the price, things might change! i'm only going by the online price list but that in itself seems steep then theres all the hidden costs that not many of us account for before we set off on a venture like this. Any idea how much it costs in total, ball park figure? Great car though .....mmmm Cheers Karl Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Great pic blatters. Great looking colour and livery.....not sure about the westie nxt to it. Quote
Blatman Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 The car in the pic was built buy a time served chippy who's now a No1 race car engineer. IIRC, it stands him at around 30 grand, and he did almost all the work himself... Quote
jonlewis Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 You can't complain about the cost on one of those compared to a Westy. It is fairly easy to spend £20k and more on a Westy (As I well know) and it does not have a roof, doors, windscreen to name just a few bits. So £30k does not sound all that unreasonable. It is a different type of car, and although I would prefer a real one, a Dino engined stratos replica is a fantastic piece of kit. Quote
corsechris Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 There is also the NapierSport Corse to consider if you're interested. Slightly less accurate in replica terms but IMWO, a better chassis design. Like many kit cars, a long and varied history, but now in the care of Lionel Gooch at Napiersport. Have look here... http://www.superstratos.com/napiersport.html I'm near the end of building an early Corse S (strut rear suspension). It's cost me just over £20k. You do spot the occasional pre-enjoyed car for sale as well. Not sure I'd fit a Dino engine though - too rich and fragile for my blood....Alfa V6 is probably the most popular fitment these days although there are Ferrari V8, Honda V6, Nissan V6, Lancia TC turbos, Lancia TC Volumex and even a few sad people like me with Lancia twin cams on a humble twin choke. Still, I've got the V6 sat in the back of the garage waiting until I can afford to fettle & fit it. ...and for loads of specific info, try here.... http://www.stratossupersite.com and work your way to the forum.
