Steve R Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Right.. I've convinced myself to sell my pre-lit next spring and have decided to build a Megablade as a new 'toy'. I've been doing some research on sourcing a pre-95 'blade engine and they seem to be fairly hard to come by. Can anybody recommend a reliable source for these engine at sensible prices? (ideally midlands area). Also, are there any points to look out for when viewing engines? Does the Fireblade have any inherent weak points / common faults which you should walk away from? Cheers in advance. Steve. PS Yes, I've done a search! Quote
oioi Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 ive never had any dealings with them, but try here http://www.mnrltd.co.uk/Engines.html Quote
Steve R Posted October 14, 2004 Author Posted October 14, 2004 Thanks chaps, Is there any benefit in buying a whole bike, either crash damaged or straight, and breaking it yourself? Tidy pre-95 bikes don't seem to cost all that much now, but i'm not sure if it makes sense financially (i'm a bit of a 'bike newbie i'm afraid - not sure roughly how much all the unwanted bits would fetch). Think this may be more hassle than its worth, but it could be another option... Steve. Quote
perksy Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Alot of the Breakers know what's going on now with regards using Bike engines in Westy's etc, and seem to have altered their prices to suit If you buy a complete Bike you could always sell the rest of the bits that are ok on ebay etc And if it's not too bad you can test the engine and gearbox Quote
chazpowerslide Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 I got my pre 95 blade engine with everything to make it go from DK motorcycles (01782 862200) It cost me £1200 delivered to my door fully garantueed which was a good price 6 months ago. Chaz. Quote
stubbow Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 I bought my june 95 engine on ebay for 400.00 then rebuilt it with uprated cams valves and a gas flowed head etc and the total was only 1000.00. Another option is to buy a complete bike i looked into this and found that a clean 94-95 blade less motor would fetch 1000.00 if sold to a breaker such as THE FIREBLADE SHOP in Essex. Danny Quote
higgsti Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 theres engines on ebay from £260 to complete bikes when i was looking for a spare engine breakers were asking 800 plus bought a complete bike for 1500 and have kept it complete and like others have said you can here it running:D Quote
Steve R Posted October 18, 2004 Author Posted October 18, 2004 Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. I do like the idea of buying a whole bike to make sure I get all the bits I need and to hear it running. I guess having a V5 should also make proving the engine's age at SVA much easier. Good job I don't have my bike licence or the temptation to keep it as another toy would be too great! Quote
wills-Megablade Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I have recently begun the build on my mega blade. Sourcing engine providers wasnt the problem, sourcing what felt to be the right engine at the right price was!! Went for a "word of mouth" recommendation, and sourced a 95 engine with all the bits for just over 1100 delivered.i got to see the photos of it on email before buying etc too.Where from? - a very helpful guy - Stephen Porter of Gloucester (01453 886349-i'm sure he wont mind the advert). He does supply Fisher Cars with engines too.As for the age thing, Honda uk (01753 590500) will supply an age certificate in exchange for an engine number and just under £30.The 'Blade was/is a very nickable bike,Ebay etc made me feel a bit uneasy.Be careful!!!Good luck Quote
