1st track day advice.

where would be a suitable place to go for my 1st trackday? all the cheap ones are open pit lane like at elvington up the road.

I want to go to one with novice intermediate and advanced so i can sling the GT6 round, pelting it with other starters and not worry about pedestrians getting mashed up.

any ideas?

Pick an airfield first. Even an open pitlane one should be relatively good for getting your feet wet so to speak.

Don't expect to be able to drive like a loon though, some TDOs are quite hot on people driving outside of their abilities...

I was reading on BAT website that Open pit lane isnt advisable for novices. ???

My first 3 airfield days were all open pitlane. The thing is just to try to find your own bit of track. If there are too many other cars around you, any mistakes you make could involve another car.

If you find yourself in a gaggle of cars, back off and let them get clear before building up to speed again.

I would always advise doing an open pitlane.

With grouped days you may be traped in a class that are driving like idiots and can't get away from them.

At least with an open track day you can find you own piece of track, something Andy seems keen on at the moment, and play with less risk.

Its also better value

right. on the advice of you experienced chaps ill try an open pitlane at elvington.

Whats sort of helmet is required in a coupe? cos im almost 6ft and most people 5ft 7 complain about their head touching the roof lining.

True, but most TDOs say they will swap sessions if you ask and have a good reason.

You then run the risk of feeling daunted by being in a class that you feel that you are not ready for  ???

WROX you will still need a helmet but I think you would get away with an open face if you are in a tin top.  It is best to check with the company you book with.

I'll wear my current one for the Westy then :)

I think I shall get one at Elvington for Xmas. Feck all to hit appart from a few thousand £'s worth of cars.
