Nick M Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Then brace yourself because it's going to get loud. The crew chief gives the signal - for Dick LaHaie, it's a head bob to driver Larry Dixon - and the driver then whaps the throttle not once, but twice. This is done to put heat in the clutch. And if you're standing close enough, squeeze your hands over your ears and you'll feel it pulling the air out of your lungs... And then when you gasp for breath you end up taking in a dose of neat nitro fumes and your eyes start running, your throat and nose hurt and you make a rapid dash for some breathable air !! Still makes me grin like a looney though - bunch of grown adults standing around an engine being gassed Quote

Nick M Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 The ones in Pomona are usually pretty good to watch I *might* make it to Las Vegas if I manage to get a green card from SWMBO. Otherwise I'll have to wait until February next year and go back to the ones at Firebird (Phoenix). I wouldnt mind havin a go in one of those 2 seater top fuel cars. They have yet to construct a pair of bicycle clips that would tempt me to get into such a car... I'd love to have a ride in something a little bit less mad though, like a Pro-Stock car perhaps. Quote
