PhilH
Having owned and cherished my 1600cvh seiw for 3 years,i now need more cubes. What once seemed fast is now slow and i am undecided which way to go.Mostly all road use,Blats to Le mans etc.Aint got time or space to build so i need it ready to run,not to complicated and reliable.Do i go for bike engine, car engine ? Is the seight as good as it sounds?Do i defect to a Tiger?.... Current Westy is 1993 non Q plate factory built,SEIW 1600cvh,ind rear(whatever that means) twin 40s swept wings, alloys, wet gear in excellent shape. How much is it worth???Or do i keep it and put faster bits on it.Comments appreciated
felters
I think logic dictates that you sell yours and buy another that has already had the money spent. However logic doesn't count for much around here If it's a road car I'd stick with a car engine rather than a BEC. You're probably looking at at least £3k to make any real difference. You could always tune the CVH
Nick.Petty
Do i defect to a Tiger?.... Umm, no. Agree with Mike that a CEC is better for mainly road use especially if you like the Le Mans trip ... did it this year in my blade and am still shaking and one of me ears is still buzzing ... bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Nicko
CrashBangWallop
Phil. I believe both ChrisF and MarkCoopers (both on here) have had work done to their CVH. Gone from the bog-standard 103 bhp (or whatever) to about 137 bhp. AFAIK it was around the grand mark. I can't keep up with them any more in my CVH
DickieB
Ferriday Engineering are experts in CVH and can breathe on it for you. The spec of your car sounds fine, so unless you really want to change it, just get the CVH breathed on - it'll be about the same price as buying and selling cars (perhaps cheaper), and will be much easier! oioi
personally i would sell it and buy a decent 16valver with 200 plus bhp. thats the only way you will feel the true difference. making improvements are great and it will feel a little quicker, but it wont be the step change in performance 200+ bhp can bring. but that depends on budget... samcooke
Yup. Buy and sell the only sensible thing if you want 180+bhp. You will feel a difference by modding yours, especially with a higher cam, but for s**t the bed fast it has to be a new car. Even light mods will all too easily get towards the £1000 mark if someone else does it and by that time you may as well swap up. Would guess yours is £6000 - £6500 odd, you should buy a newer, 16v Zetec or Vauxhall engined car for £8000 or £9000 for a real humdinger. 'Ind rear' presumably means independent rear suspension, which is what the i in SEiW stands for.

'Ind rear' presumably means independent rear suspension, which is what the i in SEiW stands for. er - disagree actually. I bought a bog standard 1.6CVH car from the factory in 1997. In 2001, I had a 2L XE Vauxhall 16v fitted by Ash Mason (he lists as "ARM" on here). It was also a bog standard engine - apart from the twin 45 webers. Result - about 180bhp and miles of smiles. Since then - other mods have been performed on the car - straight cut Quaife gearbox, LSD midly hot cams and wide track suspension. I now have a very good sprint car that is competitive in the Speed Series. Personally, I would not sell my car for £8-9000 as I have spent two to three years developing it to the standard it now occupies. So I sort of disagree with the "real humdinger" statement - I think you would get a fairly OK car for this money - but would need to pay closer to £10-15k for a real humdinger (depending on spec obviously) Keep your car - you know it well - modifiy this car to your requirements. Call Ash. Out of the frying pan and all that.
westy
Some buffed tyres, removal of the windscreen wiper motor and a minor mod on pickup points and it should be a class winner Edden

Blatman
Better a Vx than downgrading to a Zetec
