KerryS Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Now got broadband internet access on the laptop in the garage at the bottom of the garden, so when I get really stuck on the build, I don't have to go inside and upstairs to get help from you lot. Speedtest says I'm getting 750kb/s - cool! I know you computer freaks, err sorry experts out there will think nothing of this but I'm rather proud of myself to get it working. And no, I'm telling you where I live so you park outside and use my ISP! Kerry S Quote

adhawkins Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Yup, belt and braces. Lock it off to the MAC address of your laptop, change the SSID, stop it broadcasting the SSID and turn on WEP. Andy Quote
waynem Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 True.. Out of the box installs can sometimes generally be sniffed... . Nice one though! This is something on my to-do list!!! Wayne M Quote
cidersurfer Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Yup, belt and braces. Lock it off to the MAC address of your laptop, change the SSID, stop it broadcasting the SSID and turn on WEP. Andy As Bill & Ted said 'WOH!' Quote
mb893 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Don't forget to degoogleplex the double swif buffer nodes, lockup the anti sploos with a raftitter (version 2.0 of course) and most importantly of all engage the spangleflume wirrlitzer nadspankers. Quote
KerryS Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 Andy Can you put that in English please? Kerry S Quote
adhawkins Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Now you're just being silly. Everyone knows that access points with engageable spangleflume wirrlitzer nadspankers aren't going to be available for 6 months at least. Andy Quote
7SE Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Andy Can you put that in English please? Kerry S "Nurse!, my medicine's wearing off again" Just ignore him Quote
adhawkins Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Can you put that in English please? I'm afraid all you can do is RTFM. Or find a handy local 'expert' to give you a hand. Where are you based? Andy Quote
KerryS Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 For my 100th post..... Kerry S PS Actually I'm not all that clever, it didn't work after plugging it in so onto the helpdesk and spoke to a very nice guy in India who knew nothing about cricket, but that's an irrelavance, who sorted it out by powereing down the cable modem and the router and repowering it. But when I asked about the encryption help, he said I need to speak to someone else at $29 a minute!!! We are awaiting my IT consultant, aka son-in-law to come this weekend to sort that. Quote
adhawkins Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 You definitely need to sort it. Otherwise (as you say) someone can park outside your house and download pr0n through your Internet connection... Andy Quote

adhawkins Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Ah, but your forgetting the beta test version has been availible for the last two stardates! And you're obviously forgetting the NDA you signed... Andy Quote
