Bananaman Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Toying with the idea of getting a Subaru Legacy Twin turbo estate for towing The fuel ecconomy is worrying me a bit & woundered if you can fit LPG to turbo engines Quote
pistonbroke Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Sure you can stick a "Large Patch of Glue" to anythink Quote
tonym Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Although petrol has a lower calorific value than LPG it has a higher octane rating so a higher compression ratio or more boost pressure can be used before the onset of detonation. The latest type of sequential gas injection should be fine but beware of earlier systems unless you want an explosion in the inlet manifold Quote
Turbo Tommo Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Nanas, my Omega runs on LPG, economy works out at an average of 17 mpg, towing, urban, long runs. That equates to about 40mpg in real money. There's no discernable difference ion performance. Saw LPG for 35.9 p ltr in Bristol this weekend, U/l is about 82/83 p ltr. Dont see why it shouldn't work on a Turbo. Call Northern Road Engineering in Newark and ask for Neil, he'll tell you if it's possible. 01636 705244 Have a look at my car on Sat if you're coming down. Ian Podmore Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 As a boring fact, if you ran an engine on Natural Gas, the optimum CR is about 15:1 Quote
mogwi Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Had my Previa converted (22mpg on petrol), does 20mpg on LPG and pay 32p/L and doing 20,000 miles plus a year it's a big saving. Quote
