XTR2Turbo Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Missed the FIA finals at SantaPod this year. Anyway just looked at the Eurdragster coverage and saw this "Martin Hill followed the Pro finals with a 6.159/213.26 in the Fireforce 2 Jet FC, whilst Angelica Westholm and Thomas Pettersson followed on with a 9.995/126.05 and 11.308/117.79 on their snowmobiles. Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Think it's called "Traction" lots on the white stuff, only 1G's worth on the black stuff. Quote
Fat Albert Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Snowmobiles respond to global warming, fast enough for even the shortest lived snowfall Quote
Coxy Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Well the UK is wet enough, if the tempaerature drops a good few degrees then the SnowWesty could become feasible Quote
Pepi Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Seems you dont even need the white stuff!! Clicky Quote
Crash Override Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 As a baseline, a late model standard 800cc triple cylinder engine snowmobile with asphalt track and skis on it is capable of running mid 10s at 120 with a 160-180 lb. driver. It takes a fair amount of test and tune time to find the right clutch setup to run those numbers, but those times are achievable without any engine modifications. A typical 800cc stock snowmobile makes 140-160 hp. There are many sleds running 9s, some of them running low 9s at 140+ mph. These sleds are not trail machines. They are typically what would be considered "pro stock" sleds in grass racing. They feature lightweight chassis and full race engines of 1000cc or more. 220-250 hp is not unusual. Hmmmmm, some nice hp figures there. A snow mobile engine in a westy how different would that be. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 sleds are fast as f**k! way faster to 60 than any bike! no friction see... oh yes and of course the track dig into the snow/ice. most sleds are 2 stroke though i think.. dont think youd pass emmissions with one of those Quote
Pepi Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 And it seems they fly too..... http://www.killsometime.com/Video/video.asp?video=Snow-Jump Quote
S8ight Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 theyre great fun took one up a black run when we where away at crimbo, although have to say a quad bike is more fun on the snow its amazing how far you can slide them sideways on snow Quote
steve wilson Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 The finals at the pod were great though it was a bit windy which stopped the jet car from doing a full speed run, backing off at 200mph. Any faster and it has to use the shoot but because of the head wind this would cause it to become airborne like it did a couple of years ago. There was one accident i saw involving a funny car which had bad tyre shake at half track then slammed into the barrier and crossed the finish line at 120mph on its side. The driver was ok and laughed about it when speaking to the commentator. Quote
