We have finished submitting your quote details to all the major insurance companies online and the cheapest price we’ve found for you is £4352.02.  However some of the sites we normally go to were temporarily unavailable.

Well maybe i entered something wrong, as my area isnt bad, and well i dont know why its so much, i was expecting £1500. Or maybe i selected the wrong license or something else?? I selected UK-Passplus.

Luke,

Try TPFT instead of fully comp.  That should make a big difference at your age.

Only down side will be if you crash it you have to pay for the repairs to your own car!!!!

Might find though, that the saving may be greater than the valus of the car depending wht you get.

Other major option is if buying a new car for your 18th, you should be able to get one which gives 1 yrs insurance as a deal.  By the end of the first year you will then have 1 yrs no claims which again should maje a huge difference.

Hope this helps,

Mat

Why no voluntary excess??   bung in something between 200 & 500 quid

You may not be allowed TPF&T on a new (Financed car) BTW

1000cc Mini gets my vote too. My first car was an 1100 Clubman.

Luke,

One more thing.  Whatever you get as your first car it will be cool.  Every first car is, its your very own.  The older and more "character" it has the cooler it becomes.I got my first car when I was 20.  It was a brown y reg for fiesta 1.3 Ghia, and that was cool simply because it was my own car.

No matter what car I ever get, I will never forget BFX 504Y just as no other car freak forgets their first.......................

Thanks everyone, apreciate it.

And i totally agree mat.

You are getting a quote on a new(ish) car. Puts the price up straight away. If you do ruck it and write it off, it will cost them 6500GBP to replace it (OK maybe not-they rarely pay out full value if they can help it... but you get the idea). 300 quids worth of Mini etc will cost them 300quid to replace-less risk.

Also, as others have said, dont go Fully comp. Again, thats why 300quids worth of Mini etc is worth is top trumps. If you did ruck it, and no-one/nothing else was involved, it would be cheaper for you to literally throw it away and get something else, than claim on your insurance. With the Citroen, ANY bodywork will cost more than that, either to the insurance, or you...

The car you have had a quote on is a 1300cc. This may not sound big in the grand scheme of things, but to an insurance company, that car is stupidly powerful for a first time driver. Sad but true. There are plenty of sub 1000cc motors out there, aim for one of these (or maybe a small diesel).

Uinfrotunately, the type of 'first time' car that you ideally want will cost you a lot less than the yearly insurance premium itself. But you WILL reap the benefits by being very sensible now.

And remember, that whatever car you get, a second class drive is better than a first class walk... :p

I had a little look on Norwich Union for you Luke (it's been a slow day! ) - TPFT for a brand new C2 & an 18 year old where I live (just outside Birmingham) = £1614.99 :0

A 1981 900cc Austin Mini would cost £1337.99! :0:0:0:0

I didn't own my own car til I was 20 - before then I drove my mum's Nissan Micra.  I had a 1979 long wheel base Land Rover for my 1st car - 2500cc, 6 cylinder engine - £400 TPFT insurance from Norwich Union. :D:D:D

A year later I got an MG Midget 1500cc, joined the MG club and went through their insurance scheme - £250 TPFT

Then I bought my mum's Micra (998cc) off her, thinking it would be a cheap runaround - insurance was over £600 TPFT :0:0:0:0

Insurance companies = monkey_using_typewriter_md_wht.gif

My advice - get your mum as 1st named driver on the insurance until you're 21 - insurance premiums tumble when you reach 21, and then again when you're 25, even without any no-claims bonuses (I had 0 no claims bonus when I got all the above quotes).  Then, buy a cool classic car (much less than a brand new car), join the owner's club - you should get a good insurance discount for being a member - and bob's yer mother's brother.  If you get an old enough classic (pre 1973 IIRC) you don't even have to pay road tax!

In my experience it doesn't really matter now a days if you get you car insured through your parents, they want to know who the youngest named driver is going to be on the policy and they charge it that way.  My dad managed to get my younger brothers car insured in his name and when they asked who the youngest driver would be simply play dumb and say it could be anybody, that way they can't specify who it will be, the company to try is CIS they are very reasonable and if you/your parents have other business with them(ISA's and such) they give a substantial discount. i got 40% of my first premium, it still cost £380 tpft for my 998cc mini at 17yrs with a years no claims. I was lucky they allowed me to carry my 50cc chicken chaser no claims over onto there policy ;)
