ChrisG Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 They, like most other lower cost kit cars have a few more rough edges than a Westie, the GRP in particular isnt (or at least wasnt when I bought it) as good quality, but they can be made to handle just as well, are well proven/developed with IRS suspension etc, and are good VFM for what they are. Are you thinking of swapping out the boat-anchor then? Chris Quote

Beautifully and concisely put. IME applies to lots of kits: Locost, ST, Fisher, Sylva, Raw, MK etc. Westy better engineered and more developed and easier to build as a result. No better to drive. Will Yes, it's got the IRS rear and the 20v 4age 'silvertop' engine. Pity about the screen I agree, but we want to run in the Speed Series next year in the road-going class and it's a requirement. Together with the wiper motor, it adds a lot of weight. However, comparisons of finish line speed at Curborough seem to indicate that it's not much more of an air-brake than a Westy screen. I think it looks good because it's small compared to a Westy (although definitely not lighter -- 552kg). Goes well for a 1600 though, and has very confidence inspiring handling. I actually bought it because I thought I couldn't afford a nearly new Westy (I'd only talked to the factory and Terry Nightingale) -- but absolutely no regrets. Quote
