windy Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Having a chat to wife of Roger Moran whilst at Gurston the other weekend. The BBC have been filming him in this years season of Hillclimbing and are producing a program about the sport. She seemed to think the program would be shown this month but wasn't too sure. Anybody know when it's on? Quote
KerryS Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 No idea but I look forward to it. I do like hillclimbing as a form of motorsport. I used to go to Wiscombe Park as a pre-teenager and saw my first Lotus 7 in the flesh and WANTED one. Got my Westfield kit last Saturday some 40 years later. Also been regularly to Prescott and ocasionally to Shelsey Walsh when Neil Corner I think it was demonstrated his D-type Auto Union grand prix car. Ari Vatenanen was also there with his Audi Quattro rally car when they were all conquering on the rally scene. Just brilliant. Now I am part of the Westfield scene I see there are events at Harewood and Scamonden - must get to go. The atmosphere at hillclimbs, event national level events is so relaxed, you can wonder round the paddock and be thankful that someone else can spend vast shedloads of money so we mere mortals can see glorious machinery in action. Mark Stanton Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 you can wonder round the paddock and be thankful that someone else can spend vast shedloads of money so we mere mortals can see glorious machinery in action. AND you yourself can enter into any of the road-going classes in the WSCC Speed Series and sample not just the paddock but also the track You've got the car - give it a go Quote
adhawkins Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 AND you yourself can enter into any of the road-going classes in the WSCC Speed Series and sample not just the paddock but also the track Sorry to hijack this... I'm considering doing exactly this next year (just a couple of events probably). What mods would I need doing to my car to pass whatever regs there are? Ta. Andy Quote
waynem Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Mark has it right... When my build is done (nearly there) there will be a few months acclimatisation and ironing out creases then its road going classes here I come. Hopefully 2005, deffo 2006. (When is registration ?) It's not necessarily about being competitive outright, its about doing the best you can with what you've got and pushing yourself. Do it... I will! Wayne M Edit: Oops! Back on topic! That will be one to watch... Might have to have a look on BBC's website Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Andy Go to SS page - there you'll find a Beginners Guide that you can download Your car should be able to pass scruting without any further mods assuming you have a 1 litre catch tank, secure battery and yellow tape around your battery cable Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 its about doing the best you can with what you've got and pushing yourself perfectly summed up Wayne Quote
adhawkins Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 assuming you have a 1 litre catch tank, secure battery and yellow tape around your battery cable 1 out of three ain't bad I guess! I'll download the beginners guide... Andy Quote
peterg Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Just spent 10 minutes searching the BBC website but can't find it anywhere so in theory it can't be in the next seven days I really want to see it as apart from 'A Racecar is Born' hillclimbs are virtually non-existant on TV Quote
waynem Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 An what great TV it would make.. Anglesey this weekend was my first sprint and I enjoyed it as much as (maybe more than) any BTCC, BSB, MotoGP round etc. I've witnessed. From an enthusiast POV they are brilliant. Mechanical variety and ingenuity(that diddy rear engined mini-esque thing to great fat throbbing V8's) and free from all the commercial b*ll*x and egotistical b^llsh!t that unfortunately taints most motorsport. Back to basics, and much the better for it.... Can you imagine sitting down to a fortnightly programme which has a behind the scene look at the competitors and their machines and footage from on car/trackside. I think it would be a winner. We slag F1 off for no overtaking. Well, there is none in sprints, but what there is , is the knowledge that the car who went before, maybe did a stormin' lap and, if you want to win, every corner needs to be driven as if its your last. That makes for exciting viewing... My two-penneth.... Wayne Quote
Blatman Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 is the knowledge that the car who went before, maybe did a stormin' lap and, if you want to win, every corner needs to be driven as if its your last. Actually, it's rare to find out what time you need to beat before you leave the line, unless it was done in an earlier run. Normally, you just drive the nuts off it just in case... Quote

Blatman Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Classic mis-interpertation/not understanding by me. Sorry Quote
