Boxerman33 Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Wanting to buy a new toy, will keep the Westy for blatting but looking for something slightly more pratical for long distance touring i.e. luggage and golf clubs!! Tried a Griffith and am a little undecided on that one, AC Cobra would be nice too but having never driven one I may be wrong. These both have the advantage of really cheap insurance but other newer options are S2000 or Boxster but only if I can find a cheap S version. Your opinions and alternative suggestions please Quote
westy Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I also know of one up for sale very soon... Quote
Blatman Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Boxter would be my first choice, I think, closely followed by an S2000, if I wanted "new and reliable". If not, then Trevors have to be worth a look. In between there's Porkka 944 or 968's and even maybe 911's. Then there's Ferrari 308GT Dino's or Mondials (+Mondial Spyders). What about a "classic" like a nice genuine RS2000 or RS3.1 Capri Or a more modern, but equally gorgeous RS500 Cosworth, or even a normal Cosworth. Sapphire Cosworth 4x4's are also worth a look, as well as an Escort Cossie. Unless you want the original point to point king, the Lancia Delta Integrale. My final suggestion for now would be an M series BMW. You may even be able to find a 5 series with the V8 motor.... Quote

Boxerman33 Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 Maybe I should have added 'ragtop' to my list of requirements. If anyone out there has drive both Boxster and Boxster 'S', is there much noticible performance difference bteween the two. Quote
peterg Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 OK then, 968 convertible... £15k so plenty left for upgrades found one here for £13k - it's f*cking gorgeous Quote

If anyone out there has drive both Boxster and Boxster 'S', is there much noticible performance difference bteween the two. I was a boxster sceptic until we actually owned one. Now I love them. We were in the same ball park budget when we got ours so appreciate where you coming from. I need to be a bit careful what I say because I want to get the S next time round but thats only because its the next one up and its natural to follow an upgrade route. But I must say the 2.5 or the 2.7 have plenty of performance. Our 2.5 comes alive at 4000 rpm at: 56mph - 3rd 77mph - 4th 101mph - 5th (apparently) Its a light car with plenty of torque what more do you want? Options that are a must have: 17" wheels Climate Full Leather Upgraded stereo preferably bose /Porsche salesmen Quote

Boxerman33 Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 interesting that no one has gone for the Griff or the Cobra Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I say sell your westy and buy mine!! Quote
BEN99W Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 For my £20K i'd be looking for an M Coupe, or a Honda NSX (the golf clubs will just about fit in either) I don't think you'll find the Boxster stimulating enough if you're used to the intensity of a Westfield. The Griff is gorgeous but you'll surely have a tough call on sunny days as to which car you'll take out... You might be hard pushed to find a good (chevy or ford V8 powered) cobra replica within a 20k budget. Quote
Boxerman33 Posted September 7, 2004 Author Posted September 7, 2004 Honda NSX is a great shout, unfortunately Targa tops look to be out of budget Likewise for the Cobra, a decent example is 25K plus unless I get very lucky. Everything about the Griff seems right EXCEPT... am I the only one that thinks the interior of my Westy is better put together than a TVR? OK so they look good from a distance but when you get up close to them it's soooooooooooo kit car it's untrue !!! Quote
