johnnystorm Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Hi everyone! Well the School Holidays are over and I have returned back to school to find the Letter telling me that our Kit will be ready to collect between the 22-24th September! So I can get sorted and manage my budget does anyone have a comprehensive tool list required to build an 1800 Zetec kit? I imagine there will be a list in the Manual but I guess there will always be the little extras needed learnt through personal experience! I was pleased to see an 1800 zetec in the same spec/colour as ours in Wells-next-the-sea the other evening!! Quote
peterg Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Well first, welcome to the Boardroom and can I just say a couple of things.... Firstly, Join the Club - the best £20 you'll ever spend Second, Do a Search both your questions have been asked a few times before however, one of the best places for this kind of info (van, tools needed etc etc) can be found on Steve Richards website here - click Car Project on the LH side button this will not only answer most questions but also give you an idea of how to produce an outstanding car at the end of the build Good luck! mb893 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 If you are riveting all the panels to the chassis... a compressor and an air driven rivet gun - trust me on this Quote
geelhoed Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 If you are riveting all the panels to the chassis... a compressor and an air driven rivet gun - trust me on this Oh come on, you should see my forarms after 600 rivets! Quote
johnnystorm Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 If you are riveting all the panels to the chassis... a compressor and an air driven rivet gun - trust me on this I have a team of "willing"* youngsters bounding with energy to do them! *Well they will probably be willing before the rivetting begins! mb893 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Ah, slave labour... ignore my previous comments Quote
karlgurney Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Quote (mb893 @ Aug. 31 2004,09:48) If you are riveting all the panels to the chassis... a compressor and an air driven rivet gun - trust me on this Totally agree i got bored after doing one panel by hand and the pinch marks were hurting quite a bit, i borrowed one and had all the panels on within a few hours, saved so much time and reduced the injuries. hilux Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Apart from the obvious type of tools.............. Lazy tong (machinemart or Draper etc) cheap and rivets easily. The awkward ones are done with a smaller rivet gun. Dremel, Eazi bleed kit, Tap and die set Earplugs so you cant hear SWMBO screaming "when are you coming in" Stella for when your mates come round to have a look just when you are doing something really critical to the car Quote
deller Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Brake pipe bender if you haven't had them fitted. Also used to bend the fuel pipes. A large vice - especially useful for the suspension bushes.. Torx set for the lobro joints. A load of 4mm drill bits Mastik gun for the gallons of sealant you will use! The air rivet gun was the best £30 I spent ever! Quote
deller Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Oh yes, plenty of stella for when you need courage and for when you want to stand around and admire your handiwork. Remember to get the rivit gun otherwise your arms will be shaking so much that you won't be able to hold the can. Quote
7SE Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Oh yes, plenty of stella I don't know what sort of school you lot went to. But when we wanted a drink we had to sneak out to the local pub Quote
scruffythefirst Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 The air rivet gun was the best £30 I spent ever! Where the hell did you get one of those for £30? I've just done the whole floor of my dax by hand cos I couldnt justify the £70 for the cheapest air riviter I could find. Quote
