Home networking

I've got a laptop for a little while and have tried to network it to my main PC so I can use the net and the DVD writer on the main PC to back the laptop up. I have 2 nic's in the main pc one in the laptop and a RJ45 (?) crossover cable.

I've managed to get the laptop online through the main PC but I can’t for love nor money get the 2 computers to look at each others drives.

Anyone any ideas as to where I'm going wrong. Their both running XP pro and I've run the home networking wizard and I'm now stuck.

Have you shared the Drives?

Have you given both machine IP address in the same subnet?
