steve wilson Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 I downloaded it the other night and now im blasted with adverts even though i have spam blocker and ad aware. I also purchased online Mcafee virus killer from their web site and the DXM thing wont download. Having spoken to their online support which was of no help at all i still dont have it so he gave me their complaints Tel No. so i can ask for a refund on Tuesday and go buy it from the shop. A very pxxt off Steve Quote
Stuart Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 I downloaded it a couple of days ago and have had no problems whatsoever. Don't know what it's supposed to do in the background (other than plug security wormholes) but has made no noticeable difference to normal usage. I did turn off the firewall so I can continue to use Zone Alarm. Quote
mynickers Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Well I am never too bothered about installing service packs at home, I back up like a religion, so worst scenario is F-Disk, and that is never too much of a problem, especially if settings are backed up.. Installed SP2 myself, had no problems with it initially apart from it won't let outlook use word as an email editor (geez you would of thought it would work with it's own software. But then various other packages won't work, (Nikon veiw) which came with my digital camera, and I use daily. Also it wouldn't install my brand new Epson printer properly, and stopped various Kernels from installing that installed fine on SP1. Finally it doens't like me putting in flash media (another daily operation). It seems to of locked EVERYTHING down, it's so secure it doesn't work on many things. Other than that the system is stable, and probably very secure on t'interweb, but I think it's going to have to come off for the time being, as too many jobs that need to be done are harder than they were before, and if it slows down my productively then it's not progress is it!? Lins Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 I've had no problems with it. But then I run Linux Ditto - my laptop dual boots XP and Suse 9.1 - put the service pack on and nothing seems to have broken - the wife can still play roller coaster tycoon so it must be ok Quote
